石垣島でバードウオッチング(カンムリワシ、コハクチョウ編)
12月31日から3泊4日で石垣島へ。 カンムリワシ、コハクチョウ編 と リュウキュウコノハズク編 と キンバト、カタグロトビ、ムクドリ科4種編 の三つに分けて掲載します。
2016年最後は、石垣島のバードウオッチングで終わりました。2017年は、石垣島のバードウオッチングで始動。^^ 石垣島へは、今年4回目となった。
17年は、酉年ということで、先ずはカンムリワシ。石垣島に滞在中、晴天に恵まれ気温も27度まで上昇。ビーチでは、観光客が泳いでいました。
カンムリワシの方も非常に活発に活動しているようで、滞在期間中の4日間で十数羽を観察できました。幼鳥は、2羽。
そんな年末らしからぬ暑い中、田んぼにはコハクチョウが2羽休憩しています。親鳥合わせて3羽でやってきたのですが、その親鳥は浜辺で衰弱死してしまいました。幸い、鳥インフルエンザは陰性だったとのこと。

Wings beating wide, the beautiful flight feathers cutting through the wind.
It strikes with sharp talons. Decelerating hard, but the camera is tracking the subject solidly.
A juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle found on a forest road. The traditional folk song "Basu nuTuri Bushi (鷲ぬ鳥節)" — sung at auspicious occasions as the opening dance — tells of a juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle taking flight toward the New Year's sunrise. Auspicious indeed. ^^
Normally unassuming, but when excited the crest that gives the Crested Serpent Eagle its name fans open.
