Common Hoopoes are being reported from all over the island. It looks like a decent start to the season.

The Rosy Starling that has been wintering since last year is gradually moulting. I'm hoping it will stay as long as possible, but I have a feeling it may move on soon…

Lately, a fairly large flock of Red-billed Starlings has been coming to the car park at my workplace. They appear to be feeding on the fruits of the planted ironwood trees.

A completely fearless White's Thrush turned up — spotted and pointed out to me by a friend visiting from Akita Prefecture. I had several encounters with White's Thrush from late last year into early January, but after that they vanished. This individual seems to have stopped in on spring passage.

Japanese Bush Warblers have increased sharply, just as the Manchurian Bush Warblers have completely disappeared. I'm hearing subsong frequently these days. Little Buntings and Red-throated Pipits — whether they're on passage or moving around within the island I can't say — are fluctuating, with numbers going up and down.

The Rosy Starling that has been present since November last year . Moult appears to have progressed a little, but there is still a long way to go. It was associating with a flock of White-cheeked Starlings, Red-billed Starlings, and Common Starlings.

The moult is progressing and the juvenile look is starting to fade from the face.

Since around mid-November, Rosy Starlings have been appearing at two locations. Today I went to see the one closer to home.

It seems to be touring the farmland day by day, mixing with flocks of Common Starlings and Red-billed Starlings. On this occasion it had joined a flock of about ten White-cheeked Starlings. I was on the move between work assignments, so I had only about fifteen minutes to observe.

On the coast, Ruddy Turnstones, Grey-tailed Tattlers, Siberian Sand Plovers, Pacific Golden Plovers, and Red-necked Stints were present. Again, about fifteen minutes of observation. Lately I've been too busy to get out properly.

アサクラサンショウクイを久しぶりに見てきました。人が集まるのを避けてゆっくり見られる場所で観察。 昨年のアサクラサンショウクイ と同様にホウオウボクにつく緑色のシャクトリムシを食っていました。

ミドリカラスモドキは3羽に増量。バライロムクドリは幼鳥2羽と成鳥1羽の合わせて3羽、ベニバトは雌雄で2羽、アサクラサンショウクイは1羽と盛り上がりをみせる石垣島です。

昨日の幼鳥 に続き、この日はバライロムクドリの成鳥が現れました。鳴き声が聞けたのと冠羽が見えたのが最高でした。^^

オオムシクイ、コムシクイが多い中、キマユムシクイも確認できました。

最近は珍しい鳥でもなくなった石垣島のカタグロトビ。なれた個体も増えてきました。

ムクドリも一気に数を増やし、町中でも見るようになりました。

石垣島には冬鳥としてやってくるヨシゴイが今季は個体数が多く。河川や沈砂池で多くの個体が越冬しています。

今季初確認となったツグミは昨日までいなかったのに一気に増えていました。

バライロムクドリ2羽とミドリカラスモドキ2羽が現れました。撮影し損ねましたが、アサクラサンショウクイも1羽確認。海上が荒れたので石垣島に避難してきたのでしょうか?

昨日飛来したマガン25羽のクロツラヘラサギ1羽も滞在。オオハシシギは滞在20日となりました。

今季は出会いが多いオジロトウネンは2羽飛来しました。

先日のズグロチャキンチョウ に続き再び、ズグロチャキンチョウを見つけてしまいました。ベニバトを双眼鏡で眺めていると何やら珍しい鳴き声が聞こえてきます。よーく探してみるとなんと今季2羽目となるズグロチャキンチョウではありませんか!!

何かに驚いて電線に止まったところを撮影させてくれました。一緒にいたベニバトは撮るのを忘れてしまいました。^^;

バライロムクドリは、 先日の個体 と同じです。桑の実を食ったりしていたのですが、葉っぱに覆われてバライロムクドリの姿は見えなくなります。味気ないですが、電線に止まったところを撮影しました。

夕方の田んぼにはほかに、大きなカメを呑み込むムラサキサギと畔に住むカニを狙うカンムリワシにも出会えました。

昨日のレンカク といい、今日のズグロチャキンチョウ、バライロムクドリといい、仕事の合間のほんの少し空いた時間でポンポン見つかっています。効率が良すぎて不気味。^^; 5日前のモズ にも手が震えました。モズは沖縄ではど珍鳥なのです。^^

ズグロチャキンチョウの幼鳥は田んぼに飛来していました。ズグロチャキンチョウの幼鳥はチャキンチョウと識別が難しいですが、おそらくこの個体はズグロチャキンチョウと思われます。

バライロムクドリの幼鳥も撮影できました。数日前から目撃情報があった場所からは直線距離にして数キロ離れているので同じ個体なのか違うのか微妙なところ。今朝はほかの農耕地でも友人が目撃して写真も撮っていますが、換羽の状態が全く違うので少なくとも2個体はバライロムクドリが入っているようです。バライロムクドリは今季、沖縄本島の漫湖湿地センターにも入っています。

カラムクドリ、ホシムクドリ、コムクドリ、ムクドリも今日一日で撮影できました。ギンムクドリも撮れれば石垣島のムクドリはコンプリートしたのですが…。シベリアムクドリは別枠で。

バライロムクドリとホシムクドリのねぐらと餌場も見つけたので、天気のいい日に電線じゃないところに止まってる写真を狙います。^^

シマアカモズもたくさん越冬モードになっており、変わったモズはいないかと探すのですが、シマアカモズばかりでした。
