A Tundra Swan arrived for the first time in about two years. Last time it stayed until spring — I wonder how long this one will stick around. It shows almost no wariness, so it would be great if it settles in for a long stay.

Crested Serpent Eagles are becoming more active ahead of the breeding season. I've been hearing them calling back and forth and often seeing them soaring over their territories.

Chinese Pond Herons are overwintering at several locations. Once they step into the grass they blend right in and become very hard to spot.

Eurasian Coots increased sharply after November began. Two years ago they were frequently attacked by Upland Buzzard. This season an Eastern Marsh Harrier, Hen Harrier, and Peregrine Falcon are all present, so it looks like it will be a tense winter for the coots.

For waders, Common Greenshank, Marsh Sandpiper, Black-winged Stilt, Long-toed Stint, Common Snipe, and Wood Sandpiper are all staying on.

I recorded my first Gadwall of the season. Tufted Duck and Eurasian Wigeon numbers are also building up at the dam.

幼鳥のころから石垣島で越冬している暗色型の通称ブラックサシバ は3年目の越冬も順調です。毎年、11月の下旬にやってきて同じ場所で越冬し、3月ごろまで滞在して私たちを楽しませてくれます。

雨が降ったり止んだりの中、カンムリワシは幼鳥、成鳥とも出会えました。

渡ってきたばかりの先月は近くで撮れた のですが、きょうは遠かったー。

ツグミやハチジョウツグミ、シロハラ、アカハラも増えていますが、警戒心が強くてどれも遠い。

シマアカモズは越冬組が農地のあちこちでみられます。成鳥のオスもいますが、幼鳥が圧倒的に多いです。

越冬カワウはダムに多くいるのですが、どれも遠い。そんな中、沈砂池で休む群れを発見。翼を広げて乾かしながらくつろいでいました。

河口ではオニアジサシは3羽滞在中。ムナグロやキョウジョシギ、キアシシギなどもぽつぽつといます。

田んぼでは、アカアシシギとアオアシシギ、タシギ、クサシギ、タカブシギ、セイタカシギ、トウネン、ハマシギなどが滞在中です。

カワウとキンクロハジロ、ダイゼン幼鳥をそれぞれ今季初確認しました。

ダイゼンは成鳥が現れてから遅れること2カ月で幼鳥が到着しました。海岸でシギ、チドリを見ていると海上から黒い大きな鳥が登場。2羽のカワウでした。

水路ではコガモやハシビロガモの群れの中にキンクロハジロが1羽いました。

タゲリやマガンも先日から滞在中です。

米須海岸にウの60羽ほどの群れが入っていました。カモの仲間は、ヒドリガモやオナガガモ、コガモ、オカヨシガモ、ハシビロガモ、キンクロハジロなどがいました。そろそろ北帰行でしょうか。

クロサギは、数羽が餌をとっていました。こちらもそろそろ繁殖シーズン。

春の渡りのシギやチドリはまだ来ていませんでした。

年末年始休みに入ったので、EF100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM と 7D Mark II のお散歩セットを携えて、沖縄本島中部を妻とドライブがてらバードウオッチング。

先週は、このセットでシロハラを撮ってみたけど、前のモデルと比べて逆光耐性や解像度などかなり基本性能が上がっていた。今日は、サシバの飛翔なども撮って動体の手ぶれ補正なども試してみたが、なかなかの手応え。ロクヨンを持ち出すのが億劫な時のこのセットは非常に有用だと感じた。

公園の松林には、ビンズイが10羽ほどと、シロハラにいたっては20羽ほどが越冬のためやってきていました。近くのサトウキビ畑では、越冬サシバが「ピックィー、ピックィー」と何羽か鳴いていた。

夕方になると、西の方からウの群れが上空を横切った。最初の群れは100、次の群れは60、その次の群れは40ほどで合計200羽ほどが東の方へ飛び去った。ねぐら入りするのだろうか。ウのこれだけの群れは、沖縄では珍しいのではないだろうか。壮観なねぐら入りを見られて満足。^^
