Four Red Collared Doves at two sites; Arctic Warblers in thickets here and there; Yellow Bittern again doing well as it did last year, seen frequently. The starling flock, in order of abundance: White-shouldered Starling, White-cheeked Starling, Common Starling, Common Myna. Until a few days ago Red-billed Starling and Rosy Starling were with them, but the group seems to have split up. Six Asian Glossy Starlings are mixed in as well.

Geese and ducks are gradually increasing. In addition to the more numerous Eurasian Teal, Northern Shoveler, and Eurasian Wigeon, Falcated Duck, Ferruginous Duck, Garganey, Greater White-fronted Goose, and Lesser White-fronted Goose have also been recorded.

Eurasian Coot, first noted at the end of October, keeps increasing. Wader numbers in the paddies are declining — Black-winged Stilt, Temminck's Stint, Common Snipe, Common Greenshank, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Redshank, Green Sandpiper, and Common Sandpiper.

A Eurasian Bittern that has been staying since last year. There are several individuals, but one of them shows no wariness at all and can be watched closely. It has been appearing reliably of late, and its behaviour — so utterly unlike the other herons — is a real pleasure to observe. ^^

A Eurasian Bittern appeared right in front of me. It noticed me but showed no alarm.

Opportunities to see Red Collared Dove are increasing. Pied Avocet is also turning up at multiple sites.

Yellow Bittern appears to be numerous, as it was last year. As a side note, last November was a miraculous year in which all Japanese members of the bittern genus were seen within a single month — Black Bittern, Von Schrenck's Bittern, Yellow Bittern, and Cinnamon Bittern!!

The snipe remaining on Ishigaki Island are now almost entirely Common Snipe.

The Pheasant-tailed Jacana found on 12 October is still present, six days on. A tractor came through to work the field but the bird seemed largely unbothered and kept foraging.

The two Lesser White-fronted Geese are also still here — today is day ten. They continue to associate with the Taiga Bean Goose as before. Twelve Greater White-fronted Geese also arrived and briefly joined the group, but they eventually parted ways and are keeping to themselves.

Juvenile Pheasant-tailed Jacana. It showed no fear of the tractor and was snatching prey turned up by the fieldwork.

12月5日から3日間滞在した後、行方不明になっていたアカツクシガモ がもどってきました。どこへ行っていたのでしょうね?

沈砂池にはメジロガモのオスとメスが逗留中。両方とも幼鳥です。

八重山はカモは少なめなのですが、それでもオナガガモやハシビロガモ、ヒドリガモ、コガモ、オカヨシガモなどが観察できます。カイツブリは石垣島で繁殖していのですが、冬になると越冬個体がやってきて一気に増えます。

ヨシゴイ、タシギ、ノビタキも観察できました。

美しいアカツクシガモが飛来しました。警戒心のゆるい個体でゆっくり見ることができました。メジロガモも元気に滞在。今季、飛来の多いヒシクイですが、1羽でいる個体がいました。

何度か確認していてもなかなか写真に撮れないヒメクイナの写真がやっと撮れました。

石垣島では少ないツルシギは今季初確認。オジロトウネン、ヒバリシギ、オオハシシギ、メダイチドリ、シロチドリなどは元気に滞在中。

11月29日に見つけたオオヨシゴイ はまだ滞在しています。草むらの中を移動するので見つけるのは至難の技。たまに見晴らしのいいところに出てくるので運良く遭遇できたらラッキーです。^^

今季はヨシゴイの越冬も以上なほど多く、すでに十数羽を確認。この日も愛想の良い個体は目の前で獲物のエビなどを捕っていました。

ジャワアカガシラサギはアカガシラサギとともに10月からの長逗留。夏羽が出る頃までいてくれることに期待。ジャワアカガシラサギを見ていたら遠くにチュウヒを確認しました。 昨年は複数個体 が長期滞在していましたが、ことしはどうなるのか?

サンカノゴイが数日前から滞在中。神出鬼没で目の前の草むらにいても出てこず、なかなかタイミングが合いませんね。^^;

リュウキュウヨシゴイ、ヨシゴイは毎日、元気にけんかしてます。^^;

ベニバトも複数箇所で複数羽。今年生まれの幼鳥がほとんどです。

ハクセキレイ、ツメナガセキレイ、ムネアカタヒバリ、タヒバリなども滞在中。

今季は、タゲリの数が目立って多く、20羽ほどが滞在しています。

田んぼのシギは、ヒバリシギ、ハマシギ、アカアシシギ、アオアシシギ、タシギあたりが越冬中です。

きょうはゲストとバードウオッチング。いろいろ見て回った終盤に農耕地を走っていると、なんとオオヨシゴイを発見!! 肉眼ではリュウキュウヨシゴイかとも思いましたが、双眼鏡に入れたとたんコントラストの強い白斑が目に飛び込んできました。 沖縄本島で2017年にメス幼鳥 を見て以来の久々の再会でした。

今回のオオヨシゴイと合わせて、11月の1カ月間に石垣島内だけで 11月12日のタカサゴクロサギ を見たほか、石垣島の留鳥リュウキュウヨシゴイと今季は越冬個体が多いヨシゴイとで日本産ヨシゴイ属全4種をコンプリートしてしまいました。こんなことはこの先、一生起こらないでしょうね。^^;

昨日の幼鳥 に続き、この日はバライロムクドリの成鳥が現れました。鳴き声が聞けたのと冠羽が見えたのが最高でした。^^

オオムシクイ、コムシクイが多い中、キマユムシクイも確認できました。

最近は珍しい鳥でもなくなった石垣島のカタグロトビ。なれた個体も増えてきました。

ムクドリも一気に数を増やし、町中でも見るようになりました。

石垣島には冬鳥としてやってくるヨシゴイが今季は個体数が多く。河川や沈砂池で多くの個体が越冬しています。

今季初確認となったツグミは昨日までいなかったのに一気に増えていました。

沖縄では数少なく、石垣島では稀なヨシガモが飛来していました。ホオジロハクセキレイ、マガンも今季初確認しました。

オオハシシギは 10月20日に飛来した個体 がまだ滞在中で同じく 20日に別の場所で確認していたオグロシギ と一緒になっていました。

ヨシゴイは複数箇所で複数羽が逗留中。今季は観察する機会が多いです。

今季初のヨシゴイ確認。畔の枯れたススキの中にいました。エリマキシギはアメリカウズラシギを探していたら発見。クロハラアジサシ、ハジロクロハラアジサシは島内に滞在中。

今季初のオグロシギも確認。こちらは数日前から滞在していましたが、やっと見に行きました。^^;

チュウシャクシギは今季初の幼鳥が到着。浜で成鳥と餌場を巡り戦っていました。

先月からヨシゴイの情報を石垣島BIRD観察さんに何度も教えてもらっていたのですが、タイミングが全く合わず撮影できていなかったヨシゴイがやっと撮れました。石垣島には毎年、数は少ないですが越冬でやってくるようです。リュウキュウヨシゴイを見慣れているのでヨシゴイは違和感ありありですね。

ヨシゴイの近くにはリュウキュウヨシゴイも現れました。ヨシゴイよりリュウキュウヨシゴイの方が大きいとのことですが、野外では違いは分かりませんね…。^^;

農地ではアカガシラサギが天地替えしたサトウキビ畑で採餌していました。田んぼには、越冬タシギが多く滞在中です。
