The Phylloscopus complex that can be found on Ishigaki Island consists of Arctic Warbler, Kamchatka Leaf Warbler and Japanese Leaf Warbler, but the great majority are Arctic Warbler.

I do get to see Japanese Leaf Warbler occasionally, and this time I was lucky enough to get close and photograph one — a rare treat!! I was also able to hear it call, and managed to get more than 10 shots. There are differences in body colour too.

For what it is worth, Kamchatka Leaf Warbler is so scarce that finding even one individual per season is uncertain. I would like to get it on video and in photos someday.

The first Pied Avocet, Spotted Redshank, Eurasian Wigeon, and Northern Shoveler of the season have arrived. I had been hearing Japanese Leaf Warbler by call for several days, but this time I finally managed a photograph.

Pin-tailed Snipe numbers have dropped; today I could only squeeze out a single bird. Swinhoe's Snipe are past their peak but still well represented. Common Snipe are increasing.

沖縄本島からの友人と石垣島内を巡りバードウオッチング。

行方不明になっていたタカサゴモズを再発見。獲物を求めて広い範囲を飛び回っていました。スポッターさんに場所をお知らせ済みなので、タカサゴモズを見たい方はお問い合わせください。^^

ヤツガシラもまだまだ滞在中。警戒心もなく撮り放題の個体です。

カンムリワシの幼鳥は、田んぼでオオヒキガエルを捕まえていた。

石垣島など八重山ではコムシクイとメボソムシクイが少数越冬しています。ズグロミゾゴイを撮影していると「ジッ、ジッ」とメボソムシクイの地鳴きが聞こえてきました。双眼鏡で声の方角を探してみるとメボソムシクイを発見。ちょこまか動き回りますが、なんとか写真に収めることもできました。^^

ジョウビタキはなぜかヤツガシラの砂浴びを見学。小さな虫が飛び出すのでも狙っているのか?

ズグロミゾゴイは県道沿いを呑気に歩いていました。交通事故に遭わないか心配です。

友人は、トラツグミやハチジョウツグミ 、アカハラ、シロハラ、美しいシマアカモズのオス、カモやシギ、チドリなどもバッチリ撮影できて「石垣島は鳥だらけだ!!」と大変喜んでくれているようでした。

ほかにもアオシギとブラックサシバが昨年から引き続き滞在中です。^^

Rediscovered the Long-tailed Shrike that had gone missing. ^^

今年はサシバの渡りを観察するバンナスカイラインの渡り鳥観察所からメボソムシクイの群れがよく観察されます。私は眼鏡をしても視力が、0.7に届くか届かないかなので師匠が見つけてくれました。今年はこの観察所の下をメボソムシクイがよく通ります。

ウグイスらしきのも通ったのですが、すぐに藪にもぐってしまい撮影には至りませんでした。

Kamchatka Leaf Warbler can be quite tricky to photograph, but shooting from above means no branches in the way — much easier. ^^
