Little Curlews arrived again this year — a small flock of three. While watching them, 13 Oriental Pratincoles also came in.
A Little Whimbrel I noticed by its call while driving slowly through the sugarcane fields. It's a spot where Little Whimbrel turn up every year.
After several consecutive clear days, bird numbers on Ishigaki had been dropping — but today's heavy rain brought in all sorts of things.
In the same area of paddies, Little Curlew, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Pin-tailed Snipe all turned up together. And a miracle: Little Curlew and Pectoral Sandpiper in the same frame!!

The Little Curlew found yesterday was walking actively around a wet grassland again today, rain and all.
A Little Whimbrel soaked by rain and turned completely black. Black enough to be mistaken for a dark morph… ^^;
Found a Little Curlew while travelling for work. I always keep a 600 mm lens in the company car for moments like this. The Little Curlew was foraging in a pasture among a flock of Pacific Golden Plovers. Two Oriental Pratincoles were nearby as well.
In a separate paddy field, a Lesser White-fronted Goose, a Taiga Bean Goose, and a Greater White-fronted Goose are still present. The first Northern Pintail of the season has also arrived.

今季は全国的にコシャクシギが多く確認されていますが、石垣島でも4羽のコシャクシギが確認されました。 先日、愛知県で見て来たコシャクシギ は水の張られた田んぼにいましたが、石垣島や沖縄ではサトウキビ畑か牧草地に入るケースがほとんどです。ところ変わればいろいろな環境を利用するのですね。
シーズン中、石垣島を留守にしていたのでハリオシギは難しいかと思っていましたが、1羽だけ確認できました。チュウジシギはまだまだ残っていましたが、タシギはゼロでした。例年のパターンです。
ソリハシセイタカシギは昨年秋から散発的にやって来ます。今季は、ほかの淡水シギは少ないようです。

この春は全国各地でかなりの数が出ているコシャクシギですが、愛知県西尾市でも確認できました。最大60羽ほどいて、私が見に行った翌日には20羽ほどが新たに飛来したそうです。信じられない個体数のコシャクシギが日本全国を通過して行ったようです。
同県愛西市ではホウロクシギやオグロシギ、オジロトウネン、ムナグロ、ケリも確認できました。

7羽で石垣島に飛来したコシャクシギ は数を2羽に減らして滞在中です。
天地返し中のサトウキビ畑にはエサが豊富にあるようでカラスに追われたり、通行人に驚いて逃げたりしても同じ畑に戻ってきていました。

石垣島にコシャクシギ7羽が飛来しました。例年、いてもめちゃくちゃ遠い牧草地とかに入りがちなコシャクシギですが、今回は超近距離で観察、撮影することができました。
シャクシギの中でも飛び抜けてかわいらしいのがコシャクシギですね。そんなコシャクシギが近くで思う存分見られて幸せでした。
コシャクシギの近くにはツバメチドリやムナグロもいました。今季の石垣島フライウェイはこのエリアのようです。
田んぼには長期滞在中のアカガシラサギ。だんだん夏羽が目立つようになってきました。コアオアシシギやセイタカシギ、ウズラシギ、タカブシギ、ヒバリシギもどんどん数を増やしています。
みなさんの気になるブロンズトキは3羽減らして16羽が滞在17日経過しました。以前より少し分かりにくい場所に移動しました。

水路でエリマキシギとツーショットで撮ったアメリカウズラシギの写真は、手違いで消してしまった…。^^;
A charming Little Whimbrel.
チュウシャクシギのようなアオアシシギのような、聞きなれない鳴き声が上空から聞こえて来たと思ったら、コシャクシギが4羽目の前に舞い降りました。こんなことがあっていいのか!?
コシャクシギは、石垣島でも何度か見たことはあるのですが、はるか100メートル彼方にいるのを双眼鏡で見たことがあるだけで、実質、ライファーみたいなものです。^^
向こうからこちらへどんどん近づいて来たりと愛想の良いコシャクシギたちでした。昨年もここの環境なら必ずコシャクシギが入ると睨んでいた場所なので4羽のコシャクシギを双眼鏡で見たときはかなり興奮しました…。^^; 島の南側で海に面した牧草地や草地にはコシャクシギ以外にもいろいろな渡り鳥が休憩してそうです。
ツバメチドリの渡りも順調に進んでいるようで、今日も20羽ほどの群れと10羽ほどの群れ、数羽の群れをそれぞれ確認した。
