A Caspian Tern was wrestling with a large fish on the coast. The fish was deep-bodied and the tern seemed to have real trouble swallowing it. The thread-like dorsal fin visible in the footage suggests it was a Silvery Moony.

Greater Crested Terns swallow small fish on the wing, but this Monocle Bream was too large, so the bird carried it to the water's edge. Looking closely, I could see it tearing off the obstructive dorsal and pectoral fins with its bill.

具志干潟上空を見慣れない鳥が飛んでいて双眼鏡で覗くとカモメの幼鳥でした。沖縄では迷鳥で、私も初めて見ました。

具志干潟から海岸沿いをどんどん南下し、死んで浮いている魚を見つけてくわえ取ると、近くの与根漁港に降りました。車でその場へ急行するとカモメは、漁港前の砂浜で魚をつついていました。

カモメは、魚をほんの少し食っただけで再び舞い上がり、さらに南の方へ飛び去りました。
