I spent the New Year holiday in Nagoya and managed about an hour of birdwatching. I had hoped to see a Japanese Wagtail, but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Meadow Bunting — a species I almost never get to see in Okinawa.
I spent the New Year holidays in Nagoya, so I squeezed in three hours of birdwatching. There were several bunting species in the same area and it was fun listening to their calls. A short outing, but very satisfying — experiences you simply can't have on Ishigaki Island. ^^ I also got to see Eurasian Skylark and Bull-headed Shrike, both rarely encountered on the island.
There was a Common Starling in the same paddy field, which surprised me. Five birds were mixed in with a flock of White-cheeked Starlings. Northern Lapwing and Grey-headed Lapwing were there too. Grey-headed Lapwings are always around in that area, but it was my first time seeing Northern Lapwing there.
I was listening for Emberiza calls when a Reed Bunting appeared right in front of me. You don't get to see these on Ishigaki.
今冬、何羽目かのソリハシセイタカシギ。沖縄では珍鳥なモズも飛来しました。しかもうれしいことに初列風切の基部に白斑がないタイプでした。^^
アカガシラサギは昨年からの越冬個体。水路のカモはいつものメンバーで田んぼではタシギ、セイタカシギ、アカアシシギとこちらもいつもと同じメンバーです。
A first-winter Pied Avocet, arriving alone.
石垣島では非常に珍しいモズ を先日見つけましたが、今日は今季2羽目となるモズを見つけてしまいました。本土のモズに比べると過眼線の色がずいぶん淡く感じるのですが、大陸からやってきた可能性もありますね。
前回の記事で「沖縄では次はいつ見られるか分かりません」とか書いていますが、1カ月を待たずして見つかりました…。でも、沖縄ではかなり稀なのは間違いありません。
前回は、オスの成鳥でしたが、今回はメスの成鳥です。

石垣島や沖縄では珍鳥のモズを発見!! シルエットもシマアカモズとは違うので逆光の中でもすぐに分かりました。双眼鏡で覗いてみると翼に白斑があり手が震えました。^^
カエルを捕まえて「モズのはやにえ」を作るシーンも観察することができました。沖縄では次はいつ見られるか分かりません。^^;

妻の両親と1泊2日の小旅行のついでに少しだけ探鳥。響灘ビオトープでは、入場と同時にチュウヒが飛び、あちこちにホオアカやオオヨシキリ、ヒバリがいました。沖縄ではなかなか見られない鳥たちなので感激。コアジサシも営巣にやって来ていました。あたりは工場に囲まれた場所ですが、建物内の展示も充実して、一日中いたい施設でした。
久住高原でもホオアカやヒバリ、セッカ、モズが大変多く見られました。カッコウやキジ、ホオジロも美しい景色の中で観察できました。
タデ原湿地も行きたかったのですが強風のため断念。
