Confirmed the first Swinhoe's Snipe of the season — two birds on a paddy bund. Several Common Snipe as well.

Six Pied Avocets arrived, which I believe is a record count for a flock here. The paddies also hold Common Redshank, Black-winged Stilt, Wood Sandpiper, Oriental Pratincole, and Grey-headed Lapwing — a scarce species on Ishigaki.

A small group of four pond herons — Javan Pond Heron and Chinese Pond Heron combined — is also lingering.

In the farmland on the western side of the island, Daurian Redstarts have arrived in large numbers. Apparently the situation is similar on Iriomote.

Two Pied Avocets have arrived. They may be individuals already wandering around the island — four more Pied Avocets have also been confirmed elsewhere.

The Common Crane is also in wintering mode. At first it was extremely wary, but now not at all. ^^

A Eurasian Spoonbill is also staying on — a friendly individual. Wintering waders are showing up as well.

Following last year, Ruddy Shelduck has arrived again this year. This season there are two birds and they are extremely wary.

The Red Collared Dove from the other day has now been here for 10 days. It's probably unable to move on due to bad weather.

The Pied Avocet present since 26 October is also still lingering — 10 days for that bird as well.

It was skittish, taking flight every time a rental car approached.

Opportunities to see Red Collared Dove are increasing. Pied Avocet is also turning up at multiple sites.

Yellow Bittern appears to be numerous, as it was last year. As a side note, last November was a miraculous year in which all Japanese members of the bittern genus were seen within a single month — Black Bittern, Von Schrenck's Bittern, Yellow Bittern, and Cinnamon Bittern!!

The snipe remaining on Ishigaki Island are now almost entirely Common Snipe.

A Pechora Pipit has turned up!! It tends to hide deep in the grass, making it the hardest pipit to photograph. I heard its call, waited at the spot where it landed after flushing, and it came out for just a moment.

The Pied Avocet that arrived last month is still here — it has been in the same rice field for more than three weeks.

Managed to get a full-body shot of a Buff-bellied Pipit despite the obstructing grass. The primary projection beyond the coverts and the white stripes on the back are key features.

A Pied Avocet has been staying for several days. I feel like I see them year-round on Ishigaki-jima — there must be wintering individuals in Okinawa and the Yaeyamas.

Pin-tailed Snipe was a good year, but most have moved on and they take some finding now. I managed to confirm number 20. Swinhoe's Snipe are plentiful.

同じエリアにある田んぼにヨーロッパトウネン、ソリハシセイタカシギ、キリアイ、ハリオシギ、アカエリヒレアシシギのほか、トウネン、オジロトウネン、セイタカシギ、チュウジシギ、ウズラシギ、アオアシシギ、コアオアシシギ、ヒバリシギ、タカブシギ、クサシギ、コチドリ、ムナグロ、ツバメチドリなどが大集結していました。石垣島のシギ、チドリファンにはたまりませんね。^^

台風明けで一気にシマアカモズの数が増えました。ソリハシセイタカシギは台風の暴風を無事に乗り越えていました。

いっとき数を減らしていたインドハッカは再び増え出し、石垣島の各地で見られるようになりました。

台風11号が襲来する中、ちょっとだけ鳥見。ソリハシセイタカシギが飛来していました。

クロハラアジサシは相当数が飛来。台風のこの時季の恒例の風景です。ツバメやツメナガセキレイも増えています。

6月6日に現れたソリハシセイタカシギ はまだ滞在しています。いつまで居る気なんでしょう。海岸ではチュウシャクシギ9羽の群れが飛来。早すぎるので秋の渡りとしてよいものなのか迷います…。

田んぼにはタカブシギやアオアシシギ、セイタカシギなどもぱらぱらと飛来しています。

Arrived out of season and has already been here over three weeks.

石垣島の野鳥たちの繁殖は連日の記録的な雨の影響を受けつつも順調に進んでいます。

リュウキュウアオバズクとリュウキュウコノハズクは、それぞれ1ペアの巣が大雨で水没したようで繁殖失敗していました。

そのほかのリュウキュウアカショウビン8、リュウキュウコノハズク4、アオバズク3、サンコウチョウ2、リュウキュウツミ3の繁殖は順調に推移しています。

ツバメチドリは孵化率が低いような印象。エリグロアジサシとベニアジサシは抱卵中。繁殖の早いコアジサシは巣立ちビナを連れて飛び回っています。リュウキュウヨシゴイは親離れした幼鳥を今季初確認しました。

先日のソリハシセイタカシギ は2羽から1羽に減りましたが、まだ滞在しています。

稲刈り後の田んぼにはキジバトに混じってベニバトが飛来していました。こちらは秋の渡りシーズンに向けて増加し、幼鳥も見られるようになります。

来月にはシギやチドリの秋の渡りが始まろうかという時期にソリハシセイタカシギが田んぼに飛来しました。2日間滞在したのち、旅立って行きました。北上したのか南下したのか…。

海岸ではメダイチドリ30羽ほどの群れの中にオオメダイチドリが1羽だけ混じっていました。ムナグロ、キアシシギ、キョウジョシギなども滞在中。

リュウキュウツバメが複数羽、頻繁に砂浜に降りるのですが何をしているのでしょうか? 塩分補給?

今季はハジロクロハラアジサシの飛来が多く、5月に入ってから夏羽に換羽した美しい個体を7羽ほど確認しています。滞在期間はどれも短く、1〜3日程度です。

田んぼには季節外れのソリハシセイタカシギがいました。こちらは1日で渡去してしまったようです。

春の渡りも終わりかけで田んぼのシギ、チドリも寂しくなっています。それでもアオアシシギ、セイタカシギ、ウズラシギは複数箇所で確認。タカブシギは1羽のみ疲れた様子でした。

今季は全国的にコシャクシギが多く確認されていますが、石垣島でも4羽のコシャクシギが確認されました。 先日、愛知県で見て来たコシャクシギ は水の張られた田んぼにいましたが、石垣島や沖縄ではサトウキビ畑か牧草地に入るケースがほとんどです。ところ変わればいろいろな環境を利用するのですね。

シーズン中、石垣島を留守にしていたのでハリオシギは難しいかと思っていましたが、1羽だけ確認できました。チュウジシギはまだまだ残っていましたが、タシギはゼロでした。例年のパターンです。

ソリハシセイタカシギは昨年秋から散発的にやって来ます。今季は、ほかの淡水シギは少ないようです。

この春は渡りのコースが東よりなのか、石垣島ではシギやチドリの飛来数がとても少ないです。来月のピークにはもう少し、種類、数ともに増えることを期待しているのですが…。昨年秋の渡りが良すぎた反動でしょうか。^^;

2羽目のソリハシセイタカシギと今季初のサルハマシギが入りました。ミユビシギ、オジロトウネンもぼちぼちやってきています。タシギは越冬組と渡り組が合わさり多くの個体を見ることができます。

ソリハシセイタカシギが飛来しました。 10日ほど前から2羽いたツルシギ は4羽に増えました。

夏羽のクロハラアジサシも田んぼの上を飛び回り、春の渡りがいよいよ本格的に動き出したようです。

ジャワアカガシラサギと思われる個体が長期滞在中。胸の縦斑がアカガシラサギに比べると薄く見え、ジャワアカガシラサギに比べるとちょっと濃いめという感じです。個人的にはジャワアカガシラサギでいいと思うのですが、地元では意見が割れています。

ソリハシセイタカシギも長逗留。たまにいなくなるけど、1日か2日で元の田んぼにもどってきます。

今季初のユリカモメが到着しました。カモメの仲間ではユリカモメだけが毎年、確認できます。沖縄本島まで行くとユリカモメに加えてズグロカモメも見られるのですが、石垣島にはほとんど来ないです。

オオハシシギも1カ月以上、同じ田んぼで越冬中。このまま春までいてくれたら換羽が観察できるのですが…いかに…。

ソリハシセイタカシギはたまにいなくなりますが、1日もすれば元の田んぼに戻ってきます。この場所がよほど気に入ったようです。

メジロがもはメス幼鳥に加えてオスもやってきました。

ベニバトは複数個所に5羽を確認。今季の2期米は飼料用なので刈り取りが遅く、ベニバトが稲の中に入ってしまうと確認が難しいです。

クロツラヘラサギ、オオハシシギ、オグロシギは同じ田んぼで滞在中。どれも長期滞在ですが、オオハシシギの換羽の推移が特に気になりますね。
