We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
ソリハシセイタカシギがツクシガモに近づくとなにが気に入らなかったのか、いきなりツクシガモがセイタカシギに噛み付きました。その後は、何もなかったかのように多少距離を空けて休んでいました。
ダイゼン、キョウジョシギ、メダイチドリ、シロチドリなども越冬中です。

2月に入り、暖かい日はリュウキュウサンショウクイが枝の天辺でよくさえずっています。メジロやシジュウカラ、イソヒヨドリなどの活動もかなり盛んになってきています。
越冬中のムネアカタヒバリも換羽が進み、夏羽に変わりつつあります。越冬中のノビタキもかなり黒っぽくなっています。
ホオジロハクセキレイやハクセキレイ、ツメナガセキレイ進み方はさまざまですが、夏羽に変わりつつあります。
越冬中のツグミやシロハラ、アカハラもまだまだ滞在中。年によりかなりばらつきがありますが、今季はそこそこの数が越冬しています。

The Crested Serpent Eagle breeding season is approaching, and courtship feeding can be observed.
伊野田幼稚園前でコアホウドリが衰弱して動けないところを保護されました。石垣島でのコアホウドリの記録は今回が初です。
コアホウドリの記録は沖縄本島では何度もあるのですが、石垣島ではこれまでありませんでした。今冬は北方の鳥が観察される機会が多いです。

野鳥の世界では春の渡りが始まったようです。田んぼにはコホオアカの群れ。牧草地ではシマアカモズがいっきに増えて多いところでは同じエリアに5羽ほどいました。
今春初のクロハラアジサシも確認。単独での飛来。
サシバも北上が始まっているようで数羽のタカ柱ができたりしていました。
ムナグロも北上組が到着したようで、渡りの途中、休憩に立ち寄ったと思われる群れがサトウキビ畑で休んでいました。

The numbers of Brown Shrikes on Ishigaki Island have increased considerably, with northward-migrating birds apparently joining the overwintering ones.
The first Whiskered Tern of this spring — still in full winter plumage.
They were flying over the rice paddies catching aquatic insects brought to the surface by the puddling.
A juvenile Grey-faced Buzzard keeping an eye on the sky above. Other individuals may be passing through at high altitude.
A flock of Pacific Golden-Plovers that appeared to have just arrived on migration. They all looked exhausted.

Many of the Little Ringed Plovers wintering here have already moulted into breeding plumage.
The Common Greenshank is still in full winter plumage.
The Crested Serpent Eagle is becoming more active as the breeding season gets under way.
昨年の12月中旬から越冬中のオオノスリ に久しぶりに遭遇。相変わらずでかくてかっこいいですね。警戒心が強めなので遠いです。^^;
同じく、 昨年の11月から越冬中のチュウヒ もオオノスリの近くで会えました。チュウヒは島内を広範囲に移動しており、自宅前のサトウキビ畑にもやってきます。
今年の1月から滞在しているコハクチョウ は少し大人びてきました。田植えがあちこちで始まり、落ち着きなく田んぼを転々としています。そろそろ北帰行でしょうか。
カンムリワシの幼鳥は、生まれて初めての試練の冬を無事に越しつつあります。成鳥に追われるので場所を転々とし、餌も生命を維持するぎりぎりしか取れていない感じですがなんとかやっているようです。
海岸には 先日からツクシガモとソリハシセイタカシギが滞在中 。仲は良くないようですが、付かず離れず同じ場所にいます。
The Eastern Buzzard seems to regularly attack Eurasian Coots.
A Eastern Marsh Harrier spotted from the car, soaring high overhead. Perhaps it will be moving on soon.
Compared to when it first arrived, the yellow on the bill has deepened noticeably — a sign it is growing up.
The juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle always looks like it is starving. It seems to be struggling. There is no light in its eyes.

そろそろ渡ってしまうので久しぶりに越冬中のハチジョウツグミを見てきました。相変わらずの警戒心のなさでした。
アカガシラサギはここ数日で複数羽を確認しましたが、どれも警戒心が強い。この個体は比較的落ち着いて観察できました。
カンムリワシの幼鳥を田んぼで確認。 一昨日の個体 とは別のようです。

A passing walker startled it and it fled up into a branch.

The Chinese Pond Heron was working its way along a paddy bund, searching for prey.
A juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle foraging in a paddy field where rice-planting was underway.
The Great Egret was catching tiny aquatic insects. The prey was so small I could not make out what it was eating.
いろいろ忙しくてほとんど鳥見に行けません…。移動中に見た鳥を撮るのが精一杯です。
春の渡りが本格化するまでには、なんとか時間を作りたいですね…。^^;

Red-throated Pipit in the rice paddies. It was picking up old grains of rice. Buff-bellied Pipits, White Wagtails, and Eastern Yellow Wagtails were also flocking nearby.
