First Pheasant-tailed Jacana and Eurasian Wigeon of the Season, a Long-Staying Chinese Pond Heron and More
The first Pheasant-tailed Jacana of the season has appeared. It is not very wary. Eurasian Wigeon was also a first for the season, with two arriving in the paddies.
The Chinese Pond Heron has been staying for a long time, and since it had an injured wing the other day I was worried, but it has recovered enough to fly.
Northern Lapwing: eight at two paddies, a flock of all juveniles.
Pheasant-tailed Jacana, juvenile — too close to shoot comfortably. Mid-moult into first-winter plumage. Jacanas in autumn are almost all juveniles.
Startled by a tractor, it moved off a short distance.
First Eurasian Wigeons of the season. Male in eclipse plumage (left) and female in non-breeding plumage.
The Chinese Pond Heron, back in good health.
Northern Lapwing, juvenile. This beautiful in juvenile plumage!!
It was foraging through the mud.
