Pheasant-tailed Jacana, juvenile — too close to shoot comfortably. Mid-moult into first-winter plumage. Jacanas in autumn are almost all juveniles.

Startled by a tractor, it moved off a short distance.

First Eurasian Wigeons of the season. Male in eclipse plumage (left) and female in non-breeding plumage.

The Chinese Pond Heron, back in good health.

It was foraging through the mud.

Pale-capped Pigeon, adult female. Mid-moult from breeding to winter plumage.

It was foraging in the farmland, but whenever a Common Kestrel, Peregrine Falcon, or Black-winged Kite appeared, it would dash into the undergrowth.

This individual showed little reaction to people.

White Wagtail, male, first-winter plumage. It had apparently just arrived on migration in the heat, bill half-open and looking worn out.

Hooded Crane, adult, in an abandoned paddy field.

It appeared to have caught a grasshopper or something similar.

There were people doing farm work nearby, and when my son shouted "Hooded Crane!" the bird didn't react at all, so it didn't seem particularly wary.

Black-winged Kite, adult. This one is thought to be the female.

As I was shooting, I completely lost track of which was which… ^^;

The Caspian Terns have increased to three birds. All are adults in winter plumage.

The Black-faced Spoonbills had increased to two.

Common Teal, juvenile. Sex unknown.
