Falcated Duck, 25 Greater White-fronted Geese, Taiga Bean Goose 1+1

I found the second Falcated Duck of the season. The 25 Greater White-fronted Geese that arrived on November 7 last year are still here without losing a single bird. A Taiga Bean Goose has joined them, making a big group of 26. They aren't very wary and are easy to observe. Another Taiga Bean Goose is staying alone at a different place. This one is more wary.

The Greater White-fronted Geese that have been present for two months now total 25 birds — adults and juveniles combined.

Malayan Night Heron, Brown-cheeked Rail, Little Bunting, Red-throated Pipit and more (video)

I met a juvenile Malayan Night Heron on a forest road. While I sat watching, it came toward me and passed about two metres to my side. Many Malayan Night Herons are not very wary.

I've been seeing wintering Brown-cheeked Rails often lately. On this day, Common Moorhens and Common Snipe were gathered too.

The paddy fields have many Red-throated Pipits, Little Buntings, White Wagtails and others. Pallas's Reed Buntings, Siberian Rubythroats, Yellow-throated Buntings and Yellow-browed Buntings are also staying, but they stay in the thickets and it takes a lot of patience to see them.

Dusky Thrushes have increased again. There are also Pale Thrushes, Brown-headed Thrushes and White's Thrushes, but you can't photograph those without patience either. ^^;

A juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron. It shows so little wariness that I worry about feral cat predation.

It passed right by me.

A Common Moorhen and a Slaty-legged Crake. It felt smaller than the moorhen and larger than a Common Snipe.

Little Bunting

This season I am seeing Little Buntings everywhere, too many to count.

A Red-throated Pipit is also wintering here.

White Wagtail

Among the wagtails, White Wagtail may be the least common. The most numerous is, of course, Eastern Yellow Wagtail.

A good number of Dusky Thrushes seemed to pass through in November, but come January they started appearing again.

Juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Grey-faced Buzzard fight (video)

I found my 19th juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle of the season. Numbers are on par with a typical year.

While I was watching Red-throated Pipits and Little Buntings in a paddy field, a Peregrine Falcon passed overhead. It went by with a sidelong glance at me and headed for the ducks, but the hunt seemed to fail.

A juvenile and an adult Grey-faced Buzzard, both holding the same paddy field as their territory, clashed at the territory boundary. At first the adult looked relaxed, but once they grappled, the juvenile had the upper hand throughout.

A physical brawl suddenly broke out. See the video below for details.

It looked as though it was gripping the branch itself, and this went on for some time.

The juvenile (foreground) lets out a cry. After this, the two birds fell to the ground locked together, and the adult fled.
