Second Brown-cheeked Rail of the Season
The second Brown-cheeked Rail this season. The last one was in a waterway, this one in a rice paddy. Brown-cheeked Rails and Baillon's Crakes are recorded almost every year, but they are so wary that getting a photograph is hard. This time I was watching Common Snipe when it popped out. ^^ I think it is a bird that has been wintering at this spot for some time.
Okinawa Rail in winter plumage. It was moving in and out of the grass. At first glance it looks plain, but on a closer look it wears an extraordinarily beautiful plumage.
Same individual as above. When crossing the paddies it was wading chest-deep through the water.
Multiple Common Snipe are also overwintering.
