GUIDED BIRDWATCHING TOUR
We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
5月5日ごろ孵化したと思われるセッカのヒナたちは 草を刈られるアクシデント にもめげず、順調に育っているようです。
親鳥は頻繁に餌運びをして忙しい時は、15分の間に6回ぐらいクモなどの獲物を運んでいました。

先日、撮影がかなわなかった ノグチゲラとホントウアカヒゲの雪辱戦。深夜2時ごろ家を出てやんばるに出陣してきました。結果、3月から目をつけていたノグチゲラの営巣はヒナが孵っており、ホントウアカヒゲもやんばる自然の森遊歩道の2カップルが近くで撮らせてくれました。^^
あれほど姿も形も鳴き声もなかったノグチゲラですが、今回は、なんと3ペアも観察できました。今が繁殖のピークなのでしょうか。
大国林道を流していると、リュウキュウアカショウビンを3個体確認しましたが、撮影には至らず。石垣島と勝手が違うなー。^^;
ヤンバルクイナは10羽ほど見ましたが、道路を素早く横断するだけで撮影できずでした。

The food the male brings is often something hard to identify — because it's already been dismembered, perhaps?

This is the female of a pair of Okinawa Woodpeckers I was watching. Her mate looked busy — foraging and drumming.
An adult male Ryukyu Robin, holding a caterpillar in its bill. It appeared to be courtship feeding, but it was happening inside the undergrowth so I couldn't confirm.
Rain came partway through, and the Okinawa Robin looked like it was thoroughly enjoying the shower. ^^
The Okinawa Robin looks adorable, but crop in hard and those eyes are surprisingly sharp and fierce.
Okinawa Robin dance? It was constantly fanning its tail.
