ほとんど毎日、同じ場所に2羽でいます。きょうは、オスがシロハラクイナを捕まえた直後のようでした。もう少し早ければ狩りが見られたかも。

It is plucking the feathers off a White-breasted Waterhen.

天気が良いのでヤツガシラはどんどん目的地へ渡っているようです。

仕事中に1羽だけかろうじていました。^^;

Something seemed to be on the other side of the dead leaves, and it was raising its crest frequently.

夏場に2回ほど見たことがありますが、冬に見たのは初めてです。越冬個体なんでしょうか?

It was so incredibly far away that I used a 2× extender and cropped heavily on top of that. ^^;

At first I thought it was a large Japanese Sparrowhawk and raised my binoculars, then realised it was a Common Cuckoo and scrambled to shoot it… ^^;

ハチジョウツグミやツグミ、シロハラなど渡ってきてから2カ月近く経っているので警戒心は薄れています。

This Naumann's Thrush was particularly approachable and kept wandering around close by.

島の東側に多いヤツガシラですが、今回は島の西側の崎枝半島に2羽いました。^^

今月、7羽目!!

今年はヤツガシラの渡りが早くて多いですねー。寒波の影響?

きょうは、5羽観察の4羽撮影できました。1日で見つけた数では過去最高です。1羽撮影を逃したのは、カラスに追われて遠くに飛び見失ったので…。^^;

This was the individual furthest along in its moult.

愛想のいいシマアカモズのオスでした。川平石崎半島。

昨日は、竹富島でもヤツガシラ見ましたがカメラ持ってなかったので撮れず…。^^;

二日酔いが抜けたところで、崎枝半島を回ってきました。^^

Two juvenile Grey-faced Buzzards were threatening each other.

道路を走っていたら、道端にヤツガシラを見つけました。今年もいい一年になりそうな予感です。^^

オオノスリが数日前から滞在しています。本日、やっと写真に収めることができました。^^

ただノスリと違って、随分大きく(カンムリワシよりも大きく)、顔つきもきつい感じです。

It was far away, so I've cropped heavily.

悪食ムラサキサギがきょうは、シロハラを襲っていましたが、結局のみ込めず捨てていきました。^^;

It took it down with a single strike to the throat.

数日前入手した、EF600 F4L IS II USMをテストしてきました。2倍のエクステンダーをつけてもよく解像します。レンズの解像度が上がったのと手ぶれ補正が4段になったことが大きいと思われます。

田んぼにいたカンムリワシとハチジョウツグミとイソシギでテストしました。それぞれの写真の等倍にクロップしたものも掲載しています。

A Crested Serpent Eagle shot with the EF600 F4L IS II USM alone. I kept the shutter speed lower than usual and shot at 1/320, but there is no camera shake and the resolution is good.

オシドリが2羽が浦田原に飛来していました。

Much more wary than the four birds the other day.

ハチジョウツグミが平田原に10羽ほど入っていました。^^

新しく購入したEF600mm F4L IS II USMを使ってみました。新型は軽くていいですね。

The call is slightly higher-pitched than a Dusky Thrush. In flight, the orange in the tail feathers stands out beautifully.

浦田原にハヤブサが2羽いました。ペアでしょうか。

白水、名蔵にはカンムリワシの幼鳥成鳥含めて10羽近くいます。なんて密度が高いんだろう。^^;

ツグミ類どんどん増えています。シマアカモズも島のあちこちに。

Compared to other thrushes like Pale Thrush and Brown-headed Thrush, this one is considerably less wary.
