今季初のタシギを確認しました。例年通りのタイミングでの飛来です。石垣島では10月下旬ごろまでタシギ、チュウジシギ、ハリオシギのジシギ3種が楽しめます。^^

20羽ほどのチュウジシギの群れのなかで一際目立つ個体がいました。体も大きくくちばしも長くオオジシギを思わせるチュウジシギです。この時期、ほぼ幼羽はオオジシギではあり得ないのでチュウジシギでしょう。三列風切りの模様もオオジシギではないようです。

毎日、ジシギばかり見ているのですが、合間にキリアイ2羽なども観察。コアオアシシギ、アオアシシギ、トウネン、ハマシギ、セイタカシギ、ヒバリシギ、タカブシギなども滞在しています。

この日は、連日ジシギを観察しに行っている田んぼにツバメの大群が入るチャンスタイムでした。
ツバメは田んぼで餌をとっているジシギを見つけるとなぜか急降下しておどかします。するとジシギたちは尾羽を立てて警戒するので観察がしやすいという機作です。

A large flock of Barn Swallows came by, so I trained my lens on them — and sure enough, the snipe got alert and raised its tail feathers for me. ^^

家族で夕方、バードウオッチングしてきました。夕飯の予約時間までの短い間でしたが、今季初のヤツガシラなどが見られました。カンムリワシ幼鳥の鳴き声をあげる姿に子どもたちも喜んでいました。^^
ヤツガシラは2カ所で3羽出ました。西表島でもすでに確認されています。 今年の春のヤツガシラ のように当たり年になるのでしょうか。
今季初のカラムクドリも確認して、カンムリワシの幼鳥も見てきました。電線にオニカッコウを発見したのですが、こちらは撮れず。翌日、同じエリアで電線に止まるオニカッコウが目撃されました。年々、増えていますが春だけでなく年中定着となるのでしょうか?

The Eurasian Hoopoe was busily preening on a power line.
A Daurian Starling was nearby on its own. Numbers will start building from here. Last year there were quite a few individuals.
Around three Crested Serpent Eagle juveniles have been recorded. This individual is the easiest of them to observe. It seemed to be calling for its parent.

毎日のように夕方、同じ田んぼでジシギを拾っています。長いこと滞在中の個体もいれば、新顔も見つけることができます。相変わらずチュウジシギが大半を占めますが、ハリオシギもいました。タシギも新しい個体が数羽、入ってきていました。

先月から滞在のエリマキシギ 。田んぼにいない時は水路とかに入っているそうです。アカアシシギやヒバリシギ、トウネン、ハマシギ、アオアシシギ、コアオアシシギ、セイタカシギ、タカブシギなど滞在中。

A Pacific Reef Heron that turned up in the rice paddies for some reason. It was chasing Little Egrets around. Same behaviour as at the coast… ^^;
今季は少なめだったハリオシギの第2陣が到着したようです。例年に比べると少し早い到着の気もするので、渡りが遅れているだけかもしれません。今度の動向に注目ですね。
ジシギの個体識別と継続的な観察、紛らわしい個体の識別のため、8月下旬から同じ田んぼにひたすら通い続けています。長いこと滞在する個体もいれば、1日で見えなくなる個体もいます。ハリオシギ、チュウジシギ、タシギとも一度気に入るとほとんど同じ場所にとどまっていますね。
ハリオシギは滞在組に新顔が加わり、田んぼのジシギは少しにぎやかになっています。

ジシギの第2陣がピークを迎えています。ジシギといってもチュウジシギとハリオシギが大半でタシギのピークはまだ先ですね。田んぼには多いところでは1枚に30羽ほどが滞在中で、チュウジシギが大半を占めています。次に多いのがハリオシギでタシギは2〜3羽しかいないようです。

This is still a Swinhoe's Snipe, so be careful. Body and tail angle can make it look slender or short, so snipe identification requires close attention.
8月下旬から数を増やしてきたジシギもこの時期に来て、数を減らしています。多い時は1枚の田んぼに40羽近くいたジシギたちは数羽ほど。ハリオシギはなんとか1羽のみ発見。タシギはそれほど増えていませんでしたが、10月に入れば大半がタシギになると思われます。

先日のヒマラヤアナツバメ に続き、ニシイワツバメも石垣島に登場しました。
仕事前のわずかな時間の観察でイワツバメと思って写真も適当に撮っていましたが、後から聞いたらニシイワツバメでした。もっと特徴が出る写真を撮っておけばよかったと後の祭りです。ニシイワツバメは10月1日に沖縄本島の名護岳でも確認されています。
アカハラダカの渡りを観察しているとヒマラヤアナツバメが登場しました!! 黒っぽくて細身でかっこいいです。
アカハラダカは数百羽渡りました。一番大きな群れで数十羽。しばらく渡りは続きますが、台風の動向が気になりますね。
今季初となるオオバンやムナグロ幼鳥も確認しました。サンショウクイの100羽ほどの群れやコムシクイの鳴き声も聞こえ、秋の深まりを感じます。
