We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
2年前、繁殖しているところを確認した標識付きのリュウキュウコノハズク を2年ぶりに再確認。
この個体はメスで、2021年に波照間島で研究のため標識をつけられた134個体のうちの1羽でした。2023年9月23日付の新聞にも掲載しました。
引き続き、観察できるといいですね。^^

自宅近くで子育てしていたリュウキュウアカショウビンは、いつの間にか巣立っていました。飛べるようになったヒナを3羽確認。
ズグロミゾゴイも巣立ち。巣立ちしてしばらく経っている幼鳥を2羽確認。リュウキュウヨシゴイは水のある田んぼに幼鳥が3羽ほど。親鳥の鳴き声も聞こえていました。
ツバメチドリは私有地の採石場で繁殖したようで、成鳥と幼鳥が合わせて30羽ほどいました。コチドリの幼鳥も2羽。石垣島で繁殖している可能性もありますね。

There were three fledgling Ryukyu Bitterns — a trio of siblings.
Oriental Pratincoles had a good breeding season, and many fledged chicks were recorded.
This individual appeared to have injured a wing, but the injury seems minor so it should be fine.

アオバズクが巣立ちました。カップル成立が例年より遅かったので巣立ちも遅れました。カップルのどちらかが変わったのでしょうか。
アカショウビンはどこも巣立ちが終わって、親鳥たちはほっと一息。巣立ったヒナたちは親の縄張りに止まっていますが、獲物は自分でとっています。
リュウキュウヨシゴイも子育て終わり、あちこちの田んぼで幼鳥が出だしています。ムラサキサギも独り立ちした幼鳥が田んぼに現れだしました。アカガシラサギやクロツラヘラサギは秋の渡りで飛来しています。
シギやチドリは少しずつ動きだしています。秋の渡りが本格化するにつれ、どんどん数と種類を増やしていきます。
アジサシ類は子育て真っ最中。エリグロアジサシは孵化後1週間から2週間程度たったヒナたちの姿が見えだしました。

Two Black-faced Spoonbills have been staying together for several days now.

A few Greenshank arrived together. The extent of moult varied among individuals.

Little Ringed Plovers arrived in a group of about ten. They looked tired, having just arrived.
Three Eastern Spot-billed Ducks growing up together after losing their parent. Whenever a Common Moorhen with chicks appeared, they would follow along as if longing for a family, but they kept getting left behind.
A fledgling Ryukyu Swallow. It had come to the rice paddy to drink water.
A Black-naped Tern chick, about ten days to two weeks post-hatch. At least two pairs and three chicks were visible.
台風3号が石垣島に迫ってきています。今年最初の接近です。
あやしげな風が吹いていましたが、アカショウビンはたくさん出会えました。ツバメチドリの巣立ちは終盤を迎えているようで数がどんどん減っています。
A slow drive along the usual forest road turned up several Ruddy Kingfishers in a short time.
This is the Ruddy Kingfisher near my home. The fledglings seem to have dispersed — they were nowhere to be found.

Wood Sandpipers are increasing in number day by day.
台風3号は大きな被害をもたらすことなく通過しましたが、台湾の西側に到達しても八重山ではまだ風の影響が続いています。
田んぼではシギの数がかなり増えて、タカブシギはどこに行っても数十羽の群れ。アオアシシギやイソシギ、クサシギ、トウネン、ヒバリシギなども増えてにぎやかになっていました。

Black-winged Stilts appear here and there in small groups of a few birds.
Little Ringed Plovers also arrived in a flock of around a dozen.
In strong winds, a female Crested Serpent Eagle was hunting for prey. She has a black ring marked "7" on her left leg, so this is "Mitchan," an individual that was rescued and rehabilitated in the past. She was released in early April this year, and I recorded her in the same area in April and May as well.
At this time of year I encounter Ryukyu Bitterns very frequently. Perhaps the adults are beginning to drive the juveniles out of their territories.
Black-bellied Terns were often seen sleeping, looking tired.
A Great Crested Tern at the fishing port was catching cockroaches. Perhaps they were washed out of the drains by the typhoon rain.
I'd really rather the Great Crested Terns were eating fish… ^^;
Several Great Crested Terns were flying around the fishing port area. Every individual is in the process of moulting into winter plumage. It will be a little while yet before they bring in juveniles.
