The female was restless and fidgety, and unlike during incubation she was holding her body up slightly, so I thought the chicks had hatched. As I watched, I caught a brief glimpse of a chick. I waited for the male to come and feed them, but he never appeared, so I gave up.

By that point the female had apparently already been fed by the male — she fell asleep inside the nest. ^^;

The female at a different location would dive at people passing by, but the people being attacked didn't notice. She pulls up at the last moment and never actually makes contact, so I suppose that's why no one catches on.

The attacks made me too nervous to check inside the nest, but from the way she was behaving I believe the chicks have hatched.

This one also appeared to have chicks — she was moving around inside the nest. You can just make out the female through the gaps in the nest material.

It would perch on top of the rocky reef, spread its wings, and call.

The weather was not great due to the baiu front, so I couldn't get that shot of a deep-blue sea with Black-naped Terns. ^^;

I will contact the authorities to ask whether they can put up warning signs, but for this year all I can do is hope there are no anglers coming in.

Okinawa Robin has entered its second breeding attempt of the season. The female was carrying nest material. The male in the photo moved through the territory, singing at key spots along the way.

The nesting tree of the Ruddy Kingfisher has collapsed. A shame, as it was a very easy spot to observe from.

A female Kentish Plover returning to the nest. Three eggs are visible.

I expect this will be the last year they nest here. I can only hope that construction doesn't begin before the chicks hatch.

A male Brown Hawk-Owl that has caught a Ryukyu Large Brown Cicada.

This is the female, paired with the bird in the photo above. Her tail feathers are quite worn from incubating.

There were large numbers of Ryukyu Large Brown Cicadas about, and the owl was catching them effortlessly as they flew right past.

Gripping firmly with sharp talons, eating from the head.

Also a male Brown Hawk-Owl.

The same individual as above, from the back. The tail feathers are in fine condition, as expected.

Also a male. People out for a walk were passing just a few metres in front of it.

Male Brown Hawk-Owls look slightly slimmer than females. This is in contrast to the Oriental and Collared Scops-Owls, where there is hardly any size difference between the sexes.
