救助したアカショウビンのヒナのその後
きょうは、二十四節気の一つ立秋ですね。シギやチドリの渡りが気になるのですが、 昨日、救助したアカショウビンのヒナ3羽 が心配で、きょうも仕事の合間に見てきました。
現場に午後1時ごろ到着すると昨日、巣に戻したヒナの3羽の内の1羽が巣から2メートルぐらい離れた場所にまた落ちていた。^^; 残りのの2羽は巣の中にいました。
石垣島でアカショウビンの営巣を誰よりも見ているであろう方に相談すると、難しい判断だけど昨日戻してまた出てるなら、そのままにした方がいいのではということになりました。この場所は、人は通るけど、野良猫などは一度も見たことがないので親鳥の愛情に賭けました。
営巣木から離れたところで見ていると、親鳥は巣の方へ何度か飛んで行ったので営巣放棄はしていないようです。ただ、このアカショウビンのペアは警戒心が強いので餌を持ってきたのか? 巣の外のヒナにも餌を与えているのか? までは見ていた場所からは陰に隠れてしまうので分かりませんでした。

It feels like the first real shot of a Ruddy Kingfisher I've gotten in a while. That's how wary the Ruddy Kingfishers on the Okinawa mainland are. Completely different from the Yaeyamas.

If it stays still it blends right into the ground and is easy to miss. The breast feathers are quite well grown in already.
Of the three chicks returned to the nest yesterday, two were still inside.
