きょうは、カンムリワシの幼鳥が3羽観察できました。撮影地の名蔵の水田地帯は、幼鳥が数羽で入れ替わり立ち替わり。多い時で4羽いたそうです。

For a moment it did something like a hover. After that, it was eating something in the grass.

鳥が少ない季節です。カンムリワシが観察できるのがせめてもの救いでしょうか。^^;

It seemed to be searching for crabs in the mangrove forest.

今季、6個体目の幼鳥。きょうは、同じ田んぼに100メートルおきぐらいに3羽いました。とくにケンカもせず。

Heading into the grass toward its prey.

カンムリワシ幼鳥の5個体目です。ちょっと元気のない個体で心配です。

The fifth individual this year, a juvenile. I wanted to photograph it in flight, but it seemed a bit weak — could only get about a metre off the ground and couldn't land on a branch… It walked up the mountain slope on foot and made its way up into the trees by climbing branch to branch. One to keep an eye on.

アオバズクが出てくるのを待っていたのですがダメでした。^^;その代わり近くにいたカンムリワシ。

I wonder if the Crested Serpent Eagle being there is why the Brown Hawk-Owl didn't come out today?

林道にカンムリワシの幼鳥がいました。前回見つけた幼鳥同様、人を全く恐れない個体でした。

There is a blood-sucking mite below its eye.

御嶽にカンムリワシの幼鳥がいました。道中、アカショウビンと今季初のチョウゲンボウにも合えました。^^

It keeps looking up because crows come to harass it from time to time.

非常になれた個体でした。顔つきも二枚目で脚、羽毛ともほとんど汚れていません。^^

A beautiful juvenile.

幼鳥が出ているのは聞いていたのですが、タイミングが悪くなかなか見つけられずにいたのですが、やっと合えました。真っ白な幼鳥の羽は美しいです。^^

今年は台風も少なかったのでたくさんの幼鳥に合えるといいのですが。

Painusima Ishigaki Airport is close by and you can hear the roar of planes taking off and landing, yet they are nesting here.

牧場でヤツガシラを探しているとカンムリワシ。残念ながら幼鳥は今日も見つからず…。

It then flew out over the sea.

カンムリワシの幼鳥はまだ見えませが、田んぼでカンムリワシを見かけることが多くなりました。

Poor Sakishima frog.

カンムリワシは子育ても終わり、人目につく田んぼや牧場に現れるようになりました。今日は、4羽を確認。アカショウビンは1羽だけ…。

A Crested Serpent Eagle came close. It's used to being around people working in the fields, so it shows no fear. ^^;

カンムリワシの子育てもぼちぼち終盤を迎えています。田んぼなどに出てくるようになりました。^^

やっぱりかっこいいねー。

After eating a Cane Toad there is blood around the base of its bill.

アカショウビンとカンムリワシです。

久しぶりにカンムリワシの幼鳥です。バッタなど捕まえていました。

多くのカンムリワシはペアになって、繁殖に備えています。

A crow was chasing a Crested Serpent Eagle that had caught a Sakishima Rice Frog.

ヒカゲヘゴにカンムリワシがとまっていました。八重山っぽいですね。^^

It seems to dislike crows even more than people — when a crow came close, it fled into the forest. ^^;

ペアだと思われるカンムリワシ。

昨日、アカショウビンの初鳴きを聞いたので林道を探すのですが、カンムリワシだけ。^^;
