We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
カタグロトビは繁殖に入りかけのペアが多く、活発に動いているので日に何羽も見ます。
カンムリワシも繁殖序盤で鳴き交わしなどが観察できます。見られる個体数も多いです。

昨年11月から滞在のバライロムクドリ 。少しは換羽が進んでいるようですが、まだまだこれからですね。ムクドリ、ギンムクドリ、ホシムクドリの群れといました。
The moult is progressing and the juvenile look is starting to fade from the face.
If it stays until March, I should get to see that beautiful rosy colour.
Around the end of the year I often saw large flocks of White-shouldered Starlings, but lately it's mostly groups of just a few birds. Maybe they've spread out across the island?
Female Siberian Stonechat. Small numbers are wintering here.
ハクセキレイ、ツメナガセキレイ、ムネアカタヒバリ合わせて100羽ほどの群れの中に1羽だけ異彩を放つ個体を発見。
周りの(キマユ)ツメナガセキレイとは換羽の進み具合が違うこともさることながら、明るい青灰色の頭部や太く長い眉斑、白い目の下や喉元などニシツメナガセキレイ( Motacilla flava beema )かロシアツメナガセキレイ( Motacilla flava flava )の可能性があります。
ちなみにニシツメナガセキレイはツメナガセキレイとは別種とする分類もあるそうで、その場合、ロシアツメナガセキレイはニシツメナガセキレイの亜種となります。
ただ、この個体は第1回冬羽なのでもう少し換羽が進まないと決め手にならないようです。大量にいるセキレイの中からこんな個体を探し出すのも楽しいですね。
ハクセキレイの群れには、ハクセキレイのほかにタイワンハクセキレイとホオジロハクセキレイがいました。
An individual that looks distinctly odd — probably a Western Yellow Wagtail or an Eastern Yellow Wagtail. That said, there are cases where first-winter Citrine Wagtails moulting into summer plumage also show white below the eye.

みなさん今年もよろしくおねがいいたします。
新年は、正月早々に新型コロナウイルスで家族全員がダウンしていました。どこにも行けずに8日まで寝正月な幕開けとなりました。^^;
鳥初めは、9日からとなりました。昨年からクロヅル、アカツクシガモ、ツクシガモ、コハクチョウ、チョウセンチョウゲンボウ、サシバ、チュウヒ、ハイイロチュウヒ、ツグミ類、セキレイ類、ノビタキ、アカガシラサギ、ムクドリ4種などが越冬中です。
For New Year's, you can't leave out a juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle — the bird celebrated in the Okinawan song "Washi nu Tui-bushi."
Lesser Kestrel, juvenile. Wintering in the same spot. An individual with no wariness at all — easy to watch.

A Hen Harrier appeared while I was watching the Rosy Starling. It seemed to be eyeing the starling flock but failed. Please, just don't hunt the Rosy Starling… ^^;

Three Chinese Pond Herons are staying at two locations.
A wintering Hooded Crane. Lately it has been moving from feeding site to feeding site almost every day.

The Common Mynas were in a flock of a dozen or so birds. They were eating Ficus (gajumaru) berries.

年末、血を吐きながら年内の原稿を出稿し終えたので、短時間ですが2022年、最後の鳥見をしてきました。
12月に入り、ツグミやアカハラ、シロハラが一気に増えていました。ツグミはほとんどがハチジョウツグミで羽衣の色合いがバリエーションに富んでいて比較するだけで楽しいです。アカハラ、シロハラも渡り直後より警戒心が緩み、観察しやすくなっています。
ちょっとした草むらからはチョウセンウグイスやムジセッカの鳴き声が聞こえてきますが、昨年よりは若干少ないようです。
ジョウビタキ、ノビタキ、ムネアカタヒバリ、ツメナガセキレイなども越冬中。
以前から滞在中のアカツクシガモ3羽に加えてツクシガモ4羽も飛来しました。コハクチョウやクロヅル、ヘラサギなども引き続き滞在しています。
カモの仲間はハシビロガモが最も多く、次いでヒドリガモやコガモ、キンクロハジロなど。今季はメジロガモがまだ確認できていません。
多くのタシギが越冬中で、複数箇所の田んぼで合計200羽ほど見た中に、1羽だけチュウジシギがいました。
カンムリワシは幼鳥、成鳥とも見やすくなってきました。これから輪禍も増えるので石垣島や西表島でハンドルを握る時は注意が必要です。

Korean Bush Warbler. It lurks in the kind of scrubby undergrowth you find anywhere. The call note carries well, but getting a clear view is another matter.

It appears to be eating something like a scale insect. It was also preying on spiders and small insects.
Judging by these tail feathers, I wonder if first-winter plumage is the right call.

A wintering Swinhoe's Snipe finally found after going through some 200 Common Snipe across multiple paddies. I was determined to find one before the year was out and searched single-mindedly — utterly exhausted by the end. ^^;
