ジャワアカガシラサギが到着しました。石垣島や沖縄本島では、ここ10年ほどで珍しくなくなりました。ジャワアカガシラサギの後にアカガシラサギがやってくるのが、近年の定番の渡りの動きとなっています。

やんばるでヤンバルクイナ

参議院選挙で那覇へ出張したついでにやんばるに行って来ました。

午後9時半ごろに当確が速報で流れ、午後11時までには出稿とシャワーを済ませてやんばるへ出発。日付が変わって午前1時ごろに到着しました。雨上がりで条件はよかったのですが、オオコノハズク1、リュウキュウコノハズク2、アオバズク0と不調でした。一方、ヤンバルクイナは木の上で寝ている4個体と道路を歩いている2個体の計6個体を確認することができました。ついでにケナガネズミにも遭遇しました。

キンバト、アオバズク、ズグロミゾゴイ、リュウキュウヨシゴイ、ムラサキサギなど

キンバトも繁殖の終盤にさしかかり、遭遇する機会が増えてきました。アオバズク、リュウキュウコノハズク、アカショウビンはどんどん巣立ちが進んでいます。

今季初のリュウキュウヨシゴイやムラサキサギ、コサギの幼鳥を確認しました。

A Eurasian Coot that summered on Ishigaki-jima. On Okinawa's main island, birds have been summering for several years now. Numbers on Ishigaki may increase in the future as well.

シギ、チドリの渡り序盤 ハシブトアジサシ到着

石垣島ではシギやチドリの渡りが始まりました。海岸ではキアシシギやソリハシシギ、チュウシャクシギ、オオメダイチドリなどが姿を現し、田んぼにはアオアシシギやセイタカシギ、タカブシギ、ヒバリシギ、コチドリなどが到着しました。これから、どんどん数、種類ともに増えて来ます。そして、8月下旬には待ちに待ったジシギたちもやってくることでしょう。

There are plenty of crabs at the river mouth, so it was diving down and catching them repeatedly.

Two pairs of Ruddy Kingfishers breeding near home. This season's nests are out of sight from the house, so I can't tell exactly how things are going, but since they're carrying food I assume all is well.

A Ruddy Kingfisher arriving with food for the chick. The prey was a large Crested Tree Lizard.
