We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
近所で繁殖していると思われるキンバト。雨降りの中、せっせとエサを食っていました。よく会うので最近は、警戒心も解けてきたようで近くで観察できます。
Emerald Dove, adult female. I was able to observe and photograph it at quite close range.
What the Emerald Dove was eating are the berries of Yanbaru Akamegashiwa. It would feed for a while and then retreat into the undergrowth, so it is likely breeding.

朝、職場でミーティングを終えた直後、わたしの師匠である石垣島bird観察さんから「なんか変なカモメがいるんだけど」とメールが着信。写真を開くとなんとギンカモメ!! 電話で「ギンカモメですね!! すぐ行きます!!」と場所を確認してから急行。取材の時間が迫るぎりぎりまでギンカモメを堪能することができました。
まさかギンカモメが国内で見られるとは夢にも思っておりませんでした。この先、二度と見ることはないでしょうね。
翌日の紙面用に取材するため日本で唯一、ギンカモメを飼育する福岡市動植物園に逸出などの可能性がないか聞くと羽数を確認しているので逃げた個体はいないとの返事でした。同園では2003年に国内で初めてギンカモメの繁殖に成功したそうですが、現在では増え過ぎて困るので繁殖をコントロールしているそうです。福岡に行った際には、ぜひ福岡市動植物園を訪れてみようと思います。

It appeared to have a slight injury to its left foot and was holding it slightly raised.
