We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
ズグロミゾゴイが巣立ちました。ズグロミゾゴイは巣立つ数日前からヒナが巣を壊し出し、巣立つころには跡形もなくなります。
警戒心が強いので巣立つまで3回しか見にいきませんでした。ムラサキサギといいサギの仲間は成長がゆっくりですね。

A Malayan Night Heron chick about 30 days after hatching, eight days before fledging. At this stage the nest is still largely intact.

2日に分けてリュウキュウコノハズクのヒナ2羽が巣立ちました。^^ 数日もしたら2羽で並んで親鳥から餌をもらうようになります。
1カ月以上、ほぼ毎晩観察してきたので感慨深いものがあります。来年もぜひ繁殖してほしいものですね。
繁殖を観察しているところで、まだ巣立っていないのはカンムリワシが1巣とアカショウビンが2巣となりました。
As expected, the first chick — the largest — fledged first.
It is holding its bill open because of the heat.
The second chick, which fledged the day after the first. It was fed a grasshopper by the female parent. I could not locate the first chick.
The second chick has more down than the first, hasn't it. Individual identification is also possible from a mark on the bill.

リュウキュウアカショウビンの親子を1週間以上前から確認しているのですが、撮影に時間がさけずいるうちにアカショウビンの幼鳥は、給餌を必要としないぐらい大きく成長してしまいました。^^;
親鳥はそうでもないのですが、幼鳥の警戒心が強くてなかなか観察しにくい個体です。
A female Ruddy Kingfisher. Moult does not seem to have started yet — a clean-looking individual.
It caught prey twice, but ate both itself without carrying anything to the juvenile. ^^;
A juvenile sleeping on a tree branch. This is the offspring of the bird above. Unlike the parent, the bill is dark and the breast feathers have a scaly pattern.
昨日の夜に巣立ったリュウキュウコノハズクのヒナ を探してきました。隠れていそうな藪の中を探索するとオス親の発見。親鳥の目線の先を探すもなかなか見つかりません。
ここの親鳥は人間には全く興味がないので、さらにしばらく探してみると、コノハズクのヒナは、なんと私の胸より低い位置に止まっていました。^^ 一足先に一昨日、巣立った兄弟とメス親も探しましたが見つけられず。そちらのヒナは飛べるようになっているので、さらに込み入ったところにでも隠れているのでしょう。
数枚写真を撮ってからいつものようにスポッターさんへ連絡。バードウオッチングのお客さんと川平方面にいましたが、さっそく飛んできました。コノハズクのヒナが昼間に見られるなんてラッキーなお客さんですねー。^^

The chick watched me for a while, then lost interest and fell asleep after this. ^^
The male parent of the fledgling above. With so many crows around, it probably gets little rest.
