We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
沖縄本島への出張ついでに南部のエリグロアジサシとベニアジサシの繁殖地を久しぶりに見てきました。石垣島のコロニーは台風5号で全滅してしまいましたが、沖縄本島のコロニーは被害はなかったようで、孵化後2週間ぐらいのヒナや抱卵中のペアを観察することができました。
ベニアジサシも同じ岩礁で繁殖していますが、観察地点からは岩陰に隠れるので見えませんが、餌運びなどから推測するに少なくとも数ペアは繁殖しているようでした。

やんばる夜のフクロウ3種(リュウキュウオオコノハズク、リュウキュウコノハズク、リュウキュウアオバズク)とヤンバルクイナを見てきました。写真に撮れなかったのが非常に悔やまれるのですが、越夏していると思われるサシバも林道で確認しました。
参院選の応援で昨日から那覇入り。仕事が終わり、シャワーを浴びて出発し、やんばるに着いたのはちょうど丑三つ時の午前2時すぎと厳しい時間帯。それでもオオコノハズク1家族にコノハズク8家族を見ることができました。アオバズクは成鳥の1ペアが同じ外灯で餌取り。おそらく巣立ったヒナは他の場所にいるのでしょう。
ヤンバルクイナはいつもの鉄板ポイントへ行くとすぐに見つかりました。比較的低い枯れ木で眠っていました。
午前6時ごろ明るくなってくるとホントウアカヒゲがいたるところで鳴き出し、ヤンバルクイナやノグチゲラも多く観察することができました。
少し場所を変えて私が唯一知るカラスバトが周年見られるポイントへ移動。この日は5羽のカラスバトを確認しましたが、写真はいつも難しい。1羽は地上に近い茂みから飛び出したので「営巣か!?」と一人、色めき立ちましたが足場も悪く帰る飛行機の時間も迫っていたので確認できませんでした。カラスバトの繁殖を記録することが当面の目標。

Of the three owl species that breed in Okinawa, the Ryukyu Scops Owl is by far the cutest.
A juvenile Oriental Scops Owl. Quite some time appears to have passed since fledging, yet it was still being fed by its parent.
This adult had been perched on the same branch for a long time. The surroundings didn't look like a feeding site. Could it be nesting in the weep holes in the wall right beside it?
Two siblings. Fledgling Oriental Scops Owls are now at peak season on the Okinawa main island, and despite the tough hour I was able to confirm eight families. The chicks often fall asleep around midnight or just after.
Tonight, a Brown Hawk-Owl had taken over the streetlight where Ryukyu Scops Owls, Oriental Scops Owls, and Brown Hawk-Owls usually appear. The Brown Hawk-Owl seems to have the highest rank — when it occupies the spot, neither the Ryukyu Scops Owl nor the Oriental Scops Owl shows up.

Early the following morning I counted six Okinawa Rails. Almost all of them were crossing the road.
Several Okinawa Woodpeckers confirmed as well. Couldn't get a decent shot… ^^;
