We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
泡瀬干潟ではダイシャクシギが30羽以上、ムナグロは数百羽が越冬しています。干潮時は遠くに散らばっていますが、満潮近くなると浅瀬に集まってきます。

Awave Tidal Flat is probably about the only place in Okinawa where you can see Eurasian Curlews gathered in numbers.
This single photo has over a hundred birds in it. In total, there were roughly three times that number.
春の渡りが始まり、サシバの数も最盛期の10分の1ぐらいまで減っていますが、暗色型サシバはまだいました。農作業が入っていたので警戒心の強い暗色型の行方を心配したのですが、定位置にいました。 昨年11月に見つけて 以来、同じ場所で越冬しています。発見当初よりは多少、警戒を解いているのかな?
チョウゲンボウもサシバほど急激ではないですが、見る個体数が減ってきているように感じます。小さなネズミの仲間を狩っていました。
近くの芝生では先月の 田んぼのアカハラ に続き今年、2個体目のアカハラを発見。シロハラ5羽と一緒に採餌していましたが、シロハラに近づきすぎると追い払われていた。

The Naumann's Thrush is an uncommon winter visitor to the Okinawa main island, but during the spring migration season it becomes a little easier to see alongside Dusky Thrushes. I saw Naumann's Thrush and Dusky Thrush at the same spot two years ago as well.
It looked to have just finished eating prey — there was dried blood on the bill.
2017年12月に同所で4羽 見て以来のタゲリとの再会。今回は、成鳥のオス1羽と幼鳥2羽の合わせて3羽でした。観察していると野猫が現れ、驚いたタゲリが例の「ミューイ」という大きな鳴き声とともに飛び立ち、水の張った田んぼへ避難していました。
田んぼにはタカブシギもぼちぼち入りだしました。

Juvenile. The crest is short and the face is brown. The brown feather edges are almost entirely worn away.
It was trembling its feet rapidly in the water and along the paddy ridges to flush insects from the soil and catch them.
Numbers are still small, but Wood Sandpipers also appear to be stopping over on migration.
