We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
チュウジシギは数を増やし、7羽確認4羽撮影。今季初のタシギが1羽、足元から飛び立ち写真には納められず。写真に撮れた個体はどれも幼鳥だと思われます。
ハリオシギも探すのですが、見つからず…。^^;
Swinhoe's Snipe with an earthworm it had just caught.
Swinhoe's Snipe on a field path. For some reason I could even see into its ear opening.
I had stopped the car to watch a distant snipe when I noticed a Swinhoe's Snipe frozen right in front of me. ^^;
Swinhoe's Snipe were everywhere throughout the paddies.
少しずつですが、田んぼのシギやチドリが数を増やしています。
セイタカシギのほぼ幼羽をはじめ、アカアシシギやアオアシシギ、ヒバリシギ、ムナグロ、コチドリなどが確認できました。ほかの場所では、サルハマシギ、ウズラシギなども飛来しています。
I finally got to see a Black-winged Stilt in juvenile plumage. ^^
This Black-winged Stilt is moulting from first-summer into second-winter plumage.
Common Greenshank, winter plumage.
The ringed Common Redshank that returns every year didn't seem to have arrived yet. Both birds are moulting into first-winter plumage.

田芋畑でクロハラアジサシの群れが飛び回り獲物のバッタを捕まえていました。この地域は農薬の散布をしないのか、毎年、田芋の葉っぱがバッタの被害にあってボロボロです。そんな環境なので、渡りの季節には、多くの野鳥が訪れるのでしょう。
クロハラアジサシは、畑の上を低空飛行しながら獲物を探し、見つけると急降下してくちばしでヒョイとつまみ上げるように捕獲します。

There are this many grasshoppers. The large green ones are adults; the small, mottled brown ones are nymphs.

A White-winged Tern that has largely moulted into non-breeding plumage. Only a few primaries of the breeding plumage remain.
リュウキュウヨシゴイのペアが住み着いている水路に2羽出ていました。幼鳥かと思ったのですが、羽衣を見る限りメスでしょうか。警戒心も薄く、車内から見ていると近く前歩いて来ます。水路では、小さな魚や昆虫を捕食しているようでした。
2羽は30メートルほど離れたところにおり、時折、上流や下流に移動しお互いの頭の上を飛びましたが、両者とも気にする様子はありません。成鳥同士なら排除するはずなのですがなぜ?
同じ水路にシロハラクイナがいました。こちらは警戒心が強かったのですが、静かに待っていればお気に入りの餌場の同じ所に出てくるので撮影は容易でした。

The Ryukyu Bittern was completely at ease, moving back and forth right in front of me, intent on foraging.
Another Ryukyu Bittern just a short distance away in the same channel. Also an adult female.
The adult White-breasted Waterhen was wandering around its favourite feeding spot.
