石垣島でバードウオッチング(ベニバト、色彩変異キジバトなど田んぼ編)
2カ月ぶりに石垣島に1泊2日の日程で行ってきました。来月も石垣島に行ってきます。^^
張り切って那覇発の朝一便で到着すると石垣島は雨が降っていて、鳥の気配が全くない…。それでも午後になると降ったり止んだりの空模様になりました。稲刈りした後のキジバトの群れには、ベニバトが複数羽入っていました。オスの幼鳥とメスの幼鳥2羽の合計3羽です。
同じ群れには、色彩異変を起こした変な色のキジバトが混ざっていました。最初見たときは、栗胡麻のレース鳩かと思いました。しかし、よく見てみると顔が明らかにキジバトのもの。たまに色合いが微妙に違う個体もいますが、ここまで変な色のキジバトは初めて見ました。
もう一羽は、全体的に色が薄く、褐色が強いリュウキュウキジバトの中にいるとその白さが余計に目立ちました。美白キジバトです。
ベニバトとは違う田んぼには、マガンとキンクロハジロがそれぞれ1羽ずついました。

A juvenile male Pale-capped Pigeon in the process of moulting from juvenile plumage into first-winter plumage. It's here whenever I visit, and there are juveniles too — could it be breeding somewhere on Ishigaki-jima?

An oddly coloured Oriental Turtle Dove. Just the one stood out.
This one is an overall whitish Oriental Turtle Dove. Completely different from the Ryukyu Turtle Dove next to it.
Size comparison between a Ruddy Ground Dove and an Oriental Turtle Dove. The former is noticeably more than one size smaller.
A flock of Ring-necked Pheasants also came to feed on fallen grain.
One Greater White-fronted Goose. I heard there were also Taiga Bean Geese somewhere on the island, but I couldn't find any.
