We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
あしびなー裏の河口にクロツラヘラサギ15羽とヘラサギ2羽の計17羽が中洲で休憩していました。^^
J10のフラッグがついたクロツラヘラサギが1羽まざっていました。
A Eurasian Spoonbill and Black-faced Spoonbill together.
It just rested there the whole time and never moved.
The second Black-faced Spoonbill from the left is carrying flag J10. Apparently it was tagged in 2005, which would make it 11 years old this year.
一昨日と今日、豊見城の三角池と豊崎干潟で探鳥してきました。三角池には、ソリハシセイタカシギ、ツクシガモがまだ滞在していました。他には、クロツラヘラサギやアオアシシギ、セイタカシギなど。
豊崎干潟には中洲で十数羽のクロツラヘラサギが休んでいました。カワセミやアカアシシギ、時折上空をミサゴが待っていました。カワセミがいた場所は、地元の方のポイントになっているらしく、止まり木などが設置してありました。写真を見せていただきましたが、大変美しく撮られていました。
ブラインド無しで、レンズはヨンニッパを使っていた通り、かなり慣れたカワセミのようでした。私も一度、カワセミのダイビング撮影に挑戦したいものです。

The Pied Avocet is still staying too.
I'd like to try shooting a Common Kingfisher diving. Back in my Ishigaki-jima days, kingfishers were so wary I couldn't get a shot at all… ^^;
A single Common Redshank was resting alone.
Numbers fluctuate day to day, but several dozen Common Greenshanks are staying at Sankaku Pond. The photo shows part of the flock.
About 20 Black-winged Stilts are currently staying.
街中のちょっとした資材置き場に越冬サシバがいました。例に漏れず、人間を恐れません。^^;
獲物は小鳥(シロハラ?)らしきものを襲っていました。
On Ishigaki-jima almost every Grey-faced Buzzard flees the moment it catches your eye, but the birds on Okinawa Main Island basically don't run — buzzards included. ^^
先月末からのツクシガモとソリハシセイタカシギがまだ豊見城市の三角池に滞在しています。豊崎干潟にはクロツラヘラサギ10羽ぐらいの群れとムナグロが2羽いました。カワセミポイントには常連さんがたくさんで車を停める場所もないほどでした。場所が狭いので、カワセミ撮影に挑戦するのはしばらく難しそうです。
宜野座のプロ野球の取材帰りに寄った金武の田芋畑には、マングースがたくさんいました。ほんの短時間しかいませんでしたが、4頭確認しました。道路や芝生など開けたところにも出てくるようです。
田芋畑にはセイタカシギやイソシギ、コチドリ、サギ類などがいました。アカガシラサギがどこからともなく飛んできたのですが、カメラを準備する前に田芋の葉に隠れてしまいました。
猛禽類のサシバ、ミサゴは相変わらずたくさん見ます。石垣島よりもずっと多いし逃げないです。サシバの密度が高いのはカンムリワシがいないので競合しないからでしょうか。海岸林ではアオバズクも一瞬確認しました。

The Pied Avocet appears to have been around for quite a long time.
The ducks at Sankaku Pond are mostly Northern Shovelers and Common Teals.
I really see a lot of Grey-faced Buzzards. That said, the environment often makes it hard to shoot them hunting or catching prey.
Out on the vast Tomishiro tidal flat there were just two Pacific Golden Plovers looking rather lonely. Sankaku Pond has plenty of Common Greenshanks and Black-winged Stilts.
自動車で那覇東バイパスのとよみ大橋(西)で信号待ちしていると漫湖水鳥・湿地センターの目の前にクロツラヘラサギ幼鳥が舞い降りるのが見えたので寄ってみました。
遊歩道を人が歩いても全く逃げず、じっくり観察することができました。嘴がピンクで目も黒い1Wでした。
It has big round eyes and an innocent, guileless face.
When I sit on the promenade, the Black-faced Spoonbill comes right up in front of me. When it hears the camera shutter, it peers over with a curious look. This close hasn't happened in a while. ^^
三角池は相変わらずのメンバーでした。ヘラサギ、ツクシガモ、ソリハシセイタカシギ、セイタカシギ、コガモ、ハシビロガモ、バン、オオバンなど。
豊崎干潟にはチュウシャクシギが5羽いました。
サシバは、一昨日北部へ行った時に撮影したものです。

The Pied Avocet is still around.
The Common Shelduck is nearly a month into its stay now. The Pied Avocet disappears occasionally, but the Common Shelduck never goes anywhere — always there at Sankakuike. It must really like the place.
The Marsh Sandpipers are in a flock of a dozen or so. They were all sleeping, but this one individual was busy foraging.
There are plenty of Eurasian Teal too. There was quite a commotion when a Peregrine flew overhead.
A juvenile Grey-faced Buzzard was at the ground golf course. This one didn't flush either. I observed many Grey-faced Buzzards that day.
1泊2日で関東地方へバードウオッチングに行ってきました。探鳥地もほとんど分からないままでしたが、Twitterの方々に助けられてライファー3種(ハクガン、コクガン、オオホシハジロ)を見ることができました。そのほかに、トラフズクやハイイロチュウヒ、チュウヒ、ミコアイサなどなど沖縄ではなかなか見ることのできない種を沢山観察できました。あらためてありがとうございます。
To think a Snow Goose could be seen in Tokyo!!
The Snow Goose seemed to favour wood sorrel, picking it out to eat.
I was also able to watch it in flight.
Three Snow Geese were moving around together. Apparently their plumage has become whiter since they first arrived. The individual in the back still looks fairly grey.
Interestingly, the 1D X recognised the Snow Geese's faces and focused automatically.
When I arrived, they were out on the exposed tidal flat, but after a while they came up onto the grass.
I also went to see the Brant Geese at Yatsu Tidal Flat. They were quite far off, but their imposing bulk was unmistakeable — no need to search with binoculars. To think I'd finally get to see Brant in Chiba Prefecture after always being let down in Hokkaido…
The Brant Goose is noticeably larger than the Northern Pintail.
A Baer's Pochard at the park pond. The difference from Common Pochard was immediately obvious. First-winter female plumage.
The Baer's Pochard has a long bill. There were plenty of Common Pochards around too, but the presence is different. ^^
At this hour the Baer's Pochard seemed to be resting for the most part, and I couldn't observe any foraging behaviour.
