GUIDED BIRDWATCHING TOUR
We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
御嶽にカンムリワシの幼鳥がいました。道中、アカショウビンと今季初のチョウゲンボウにも合えました。^^
It keeps looking up because crows come to harass it from time to time.
It caught something, but I couldn't make out what it was. ^^;
I was hoping it would fly toward me, but no luck. ^^;
林道にカンムリワシの幼鳥がいました。前回見つけた幼鳥同様、人を全く恐れない個体でした。

With strong winds from Typhoon No. 18, the swallows were resting on the ground.
例年より少し早めにサシバの大きな群れが入りました。700羽ほどのカウントです。また、チゴハヤブサも1羽現れました。

When a butterfly passed over the observation spot, a Eurasian Hobby made a pass at it. It didn't catch it — just a playful swipe.
数日前にリュウキュウツミのペアを見た場所で、今日もペアでいました。オスの方は警戒心が強いのでたかーい松か木の陰に止まっていますが、メスは見晴らしのいい場所で獲物を狙っていました。と思ったのですが、写真をよく見るとアイリングもなくろう膜の黄色が目立ち、胸がオレンジなので季節外れのアカハラダカのメスですね。このまま越冬してくれたらうれしいなー。
先日見たペアはじゃれていたように見えましたが、実は、アカハラダカのメスとリュウキュウツミのオスが喧嘩していただけかも…。^^;
A female Chinese Sparrowhawk. She showed no fear of people at all — even when I got out of the car and set up a tripod she didn't flee. Afterward she caught a cicada and ate it in the undergrowth. If only I'd known it was a Chinese Sparrowhawk, I'd have taken a lot more shots!!
2年前車にひかれて死んだアオバズクのポイント(夕方のえさ場)に今年から新しい個体が入ったようです。前の個体より警戒心がうすく、写真を撮らせてくれます。^^
It snatched a Brambling that was picking up grass seeds at the roadside and disappeared into the bushes. A flock of 200–300 Bramblings had arrived on the island before the typhoon and seems to have dispersed, appearing in small groups of a few birds.
The Grey-nightjar that had been here before was found dead right beneath this branch. I worry because rental cars and taxis pass by at speed even while I'm shooting. Please, everyone — slow down.
たまにはシギチも。三大逃げない種。^^
Red-necked Phalaropes never seem to flush, regardless of the individual. They were feeding in the paddies, bobbing along on the surface.
A flock of Long-toed Stints and Little Ringed Plovers in a nearby paddy field as well.
Little Ringed Plovers are so charming the way they run and stop, run and stop, like clockwork toys. ^^
クロツラヘラサギがまとまって入ってきました。奈良からバードウオッチングに来ている方に教えていただきました。^^ その方が言われるには2日まえには43羽の群れが石垣島からさらに南下していったそうです。すごい!!
ちなみに、サシバはゼロ。ジョウビタキは今季初確認しました。

今日もサシバは渡らず。台風18、19号の影響なんでしょうか。ハヤブサやチゴハヤブサ、ハイタカなどが渡ってきていました。
帰りに、アオバズクでも見て帰ろうと思ったら、ガソリンの残りが少なく断念…。^^;

台風の影響なのか数日間渡りが完全に止まっていたサシバですが、やっと再開して700羽ほど観察できました。^^

A flock of just under 200 passed overhead, but I noticed them too late and they had already climbed quite high.
毎年同じところにやってくるシマアカモズのオスです。人をあまり恐れないので写真が撮りやすい個体。

いつもの餌場に少し遅れて出てきてくれました。きょうは、なんとアオバズクのホバリングを見ることができました!! いつもはさっと飛び立ってガなどを捕まえるのですが、ホバリングをするアオバズクなんて初めて。
If they had shown up 15 minutes later I would have had to give up on the shot. With the 600mm f/4, ISO 1600, shutter speed was 1/6 sec. ^^;
今年も同じ場所に帰ってきてくれました。3回目の越冬サシバです。

アオバズクが出てくるのを待っていたのですがダメでした。^^;その代わり近くにいたカンムリワシ。
I wonder if the Crested Serpent Eagle being there is why the Brown Hawk-Owl didn't come out today?
越冬チョウゲンボウは元気に牧草地でバッタを捕まえていました。 昨年より警戒心が薄いんだけど、個体が入れ替わったのかな?
帰り道、アオバズクを撮影しようとポイントに寄ったのですが、登場が10分遅く、暗すぎて写真に収められず…。きょうは、アオバズクを4個体見ました。渡っていかないところをみると、リュウキュウアオバズクなのでしょう。
