This was the first time I'd seen one catch a crab this close up — it swooped in from a blind spot on a crab just barely poking its head out of its burrow, and plunged its foot right in!!

The nictitating membrane is closed to protect its eye.

The one in the back — an adult, as the wings are pure white.

The one in the front — a juvenile, as the wings show dark patterning.

Dives on a Ryukyu Box Turtle!!
