In the evening, a chick poked its head out and that's how I found the nest.

It plunges its foot into the nest hole to grab the Ruddy Kingfisher chicks inside.

Three of the four Ruddy Kingfisher chicks were taken. Hard luck for the kingfishers, but the Japanese Sparrowhawk is also raising young at this time of year.

Its throat is puffed out from singing its heart out.

Small numbers pass through Ishigaki Island. The white spot at the bill and the forked tail are the things to look for.
