GUIDED BIRDWATCHING TOUR
We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
畑に渡りの途中と思われるシマアカモズがいた。幼羽から第1回夏羽に移行中でみすぼらしい姿。
3月後半から4月上旬にかけて北上組のシマアカモズが一時的に増えていました。沖縄本島のシマアカモズは、9月下旬とこのころが一番個体数が多いようです。

It plucked the wings and legs off a grasshopper it had caught and ate only the body.
沖縄で見られるアジサシの仲間で毎年、最初に到着するのはコアジサシです。沿岸に数羽、双眼鏡でのぞくと沖合にできた砂の島に数十羽がやってきていました。オニアジサシも1羽交じっていました。

ヤンバルクイナを見るため、久しぶりにやんばるへ行ってきました。5個体発見のうち、4羽はペアになっているようで同じ木で休んでいました。
リュウキュウオオコノハズクは4年前に初めて見つけたポイントの個体。以前はカエルを捕まえにこの場所へやってきていましたが、2年前からは池の水を抜かれてしまい、カエルの数が激減。でも、たまにこうやって池のほとりに現れる。警戒心は強めの個体です。
リュウキュウコノハズクは、オオコノハズクのポイントへ向かう途中、川沿いの松の木で鳴いていた。コノハズクの鳴き声もだんだん増えてきました。
アオバズクもいたのですが、写真撮影はかないませんでした。
ヤンバルクイナの林道を車で流していると変な物体が視界に飛び込んできた。なんだろうと通り過ぎた車をバックさせると、桜の木にケナガネズミでした。何かドロっとしたものを食っていましたがナメクジか何かでしょうか? 全く警戒心がなく懐中電灯で照らしていてもウラジロガシの新芽を食ったりしていた。

A Ryukyu Scops Owl photographed for the first time in four years. Whether it is the same individual I cannot say, but it was spotted at the same feeding ground.
A male Ryukyu Scops Owl calling repeatedly. Male calls have been increasing, but I have yet to hear a female.
Also a pair of Okinawa Rails. It was early, so they still seemed to be in a light sleep.
This Okinawa Rail was found late in the evening. Sound asleep.
The Ryukyu long-furred rat was a first for me to photograph. They tend to be in dense cover, so getting a shot is not easy.
