ノグチゲラの営巣とイシカワガエル
名護市で取材があったので、少し足を伸ばしてやんばるまで行ってきた。沖縄地方は、湿気を含んだ南風が吹き蒸し暑い一日でした。明日には梅雨入りの見込みです。
ノグチゲラが営巣していました。数分から15分ごとにゴキブリやカミキリムシの幼虫、クワなどの木の実などを運んでいた。オスが運んでくる頻度が高かった。また、捕まえてくる獲物が小さく巣の中にすっぽりと入って給餌しているのでヒナは、まだ小さいと思われる。
帰り道、林道沿いの壁に埋められた水抜きパイプにイシカワガエルがいた。珍しい青色型で大変に美しかったが全身を拝めなかったのが心残り。

Male Okinawa Woodpeckers don't only forage for insects and fruit up in the trees — they also search for prey on the ground. He was coming back with cockroaches at intervals of a few minutes, so there must be a favorite cockroach spot nearby.

On the way back, an Ishikawa's Frog — the blue color form — was watching me from a drainage pipe. ^^
