It had moved to a spot about 20 metres from the gazebo where the Ryukyu Scops Owl had been nesting. Comparing close-up shots with earlier photos, there are several matching features — 99% certain it's the same individual.

The chicks should be nearby, but with Japanese Sparrowhawks nesting close by, a short search turned up nothing… ^^;

Ryukyu Scops Owls tend to be less wary of people than Grey Nightjar, but this male shows absolutely no fear of humans.

The adult male Ryukyu Scops Owl, four days after the chicks fledged. His throat is puffed up because he's calling. They should be nearby, but the female and chicks were nowhere to be found…

How adorable the Ryukyu Scops Owl chicks are!!

Two have come out. Last year there were three in total — I wonder how many this year.

The pair of Ruddy Kingfishers here often bring grasshoppers. So far, zero large brown cicadas.

All four Japanese Paradise Flycatcher chicks are now clearly visible from outside the nest. They've been bringing food frequently, but today it stopped abruptly after around 1 p.m.

The male Japanese Paradise Flycatcher here is relatively cooperative with chick-rearing, bringing food to the chicks at about the same frequency as the female. Normally the male's main job is keeping predators away while the female handles most of the food delivery.

The female Japanese Paradise Flycatcher tends to perch on branches deeper in the foliage, making her difficult to photograph.

The long tail feathers are hidden, but the green background is beautiful and this ended up being a surprisingly favourite shot. ^^

Everyone was puzzled about why this Ryukyu Scops Owl was perching somewhere so conspicuous. ^^
