アカアシチョウゲンボウとサシバ
4日ほど前に沖縄本島南部で発見されたアカアシチョウゲンボウを探してきました。当初の場所より北西へ1キロほど離れた農耕地でネズミやトンボなどを捕まえていました。畑を右手に見ながら集落内の道路を走っていると100メートル以上離れた電線に何か止まっています。これはと思い双眼鏡でのぞいてみると青灰色が美しいアカアシチョウゲンボウの成鳥オスでした。
農業用道路を入って数十メートルまで近ずいて撮影。農家の人の軽トラックが真下を通ってもアカアシチョウゲンボウは飛び立ったりせず警戒心が薄いようでした。
しばらくすると畑の中のガジュマルに止まりました。農家の人の善意で農道に車を止めさせてもらいしばらく撮影。畑の主が農作業に入ると再び電線へ飛んで行きました。
サシバも近くの農耕地に何羽かいましたが、獲物を捕る環境が違うからか、アカアシチョウゲンボウとサシバが干渉するようなことはありませんでした。
It launched out to target a dragonfly. The Red-footed Falcon's hunt was over in an instant.

The underwing is monotone. The area around the vent is tinged orange.
The upperparts of an adult male Red-footed Falcon are a beautiful blue-grey.
From the legs to the vent, the same vermillion as the feet. The talons are white.

The atmospheric shimmer had me churning out blurry shots one after another. ^^;
It spread its tail feathers. Does the tail have the same 12 feathers as the Common Kestrel?
Grey-faced Buzzard, adult male. It was threatening and driving off other Grey-faced Buzzards.
The Grey-faced Buzzard that was driven off by the individual above. There were quite a few Grey-faced Buzzards in the farmland. Passage migrants and wintering birds, perhaps?
