Grey-faced Buzzard, juvenile. Temperatures stayed low, and it was struggling to find food.

Grey-faced Buzzard, adult. Apparently the species was sometimes used for falconry during the Kamakura period, but with this temperament I imagine it could only manage small birds at best. ^^;

A beautiful male Tufted Duck.

Black-crowned Night Herons waiting for scraps at the fishing pond. Around ten birds in total, adults and juveniles combined.

Eurasian Coots had also become accustomed to the carp feed.

Common Moorhen. This one had taken to the feed as well.

A Olive-backed Pipit with a caterpillar it had caught.

The Olive-backed Pipits, which had numbered in the teens, were down to fewer. Where did they go?

About ten Pale Thrushes had gathered — perhaps there was plenty of food. The most approachable individual came right up close.

True to its name, the Pale Thrush has a white belly. ^^

Pacific Golden Plovers resting in the grass. There were just over 100.

The Pacific Golden Plovers beginning to stir. Around 5:20 p.m. they all moved at once and were busy searching for food.

Spotted a Ryukyu Striated Heron on the far bank of a small irrigation channel. It was fooling passersby with its remarkable camouflage. ^^

Went around to the other bank and photographed the Ryukyu Striated Heron from above. It showed no sign of fleeing.

Cosmos were in full bloom in the warm sunlight. As a green manure crop, they are apparently ploughed into the paddies around March.

A Blue-capped Rock Thrush that appeared at my boss's farm.

At the time I had no idea it was such a rare bird when I took the shot. Hope the Blue-capped Rock Thrush shows up again.
