越冬サシバ
越冬するサシバを多くみた一日。成鳥10羽に幼鳥4羽を観察した。
沖縄の越冬サシバは、北はやんばるから南は糸満まで少しの緑があれば見つけることができます。商業ビルや官公庁の建物に囲まれた那覇市の新都心公園「沖縄の杜ゾーン」には、2羽のサシバが居着いています。本土では、里山に住むサシバですが、沖縄では都会で生き抜くすべも身に付けたようです。

Grey-faced Buzzard, adult. Apparently the species was sometimes used for falconry during the Kamakura period, but with this temperament I imagine it could only manage small birds at best. ^^;
