ベニバトさらに増えて8羽、ズグロミゾゴイ、サシバ、ムラサキサギほか
先日見つけたベニバト6羽の群れ はさらに増えて8羽になっていました。一度に8羽はこれまでの最多記録です。
ズグロミゾゴイはずいぶん警戒心の弱い個体で息子と二人で座って観察しているとぐんぐんこちらに近づいてきて最終的には2メートルほどの距離までやってきました。
石垣島で越冬するサシバは方言で落てぃ鷹(うてぃだか)として市民に親しまれ、歌にもなっており、カラオケにあるそうです。例年、越冬個体が少なくなっているのが少し気になります。
田んぼにはカンムリワシやハヤブサ、チョウゲンボウ、カタグロトビ、チュウヒなど猛禽類が賑やかですが、キジバトやセキレイ科の小鳥たちは戦々恐々です。
満潮の海岸では小さな岩礁にキアシシギやムナグロ、ダイゼンが所狭しと休んでいました。河川でカヌーやSUPが行われるようになってからシギやチドリたちの休む場所がなくなってしまいました。石垣市自然環境保全ネットワークでも問題視されています。

Three male and four female Crimson Sunbirds — seven in total. One more female is behind the leaf at the upper left of the frame. There was also a juvenile, but on the day it was discovered, a Peregrine Falcon took it right in front of my friend's eyes.
The male in the left-center of the frame was a strangely pale individual.
Ryukyu Crake, juvenile. Molting into first-winter plumage; a few brown feathers are just visible.
The wind spread the crest open, revealing the beautiful pattern of the juvenile plumage.

Grey-faced Buzzard, adult male. I was hoping to see a hunting scene, but it was in full lounge mode — no luck….
Purple Heron, adult. My son has lately been obsessed with dinosaur books and made a huge fuss saying, "There's a bird from the age of the dinosaurs." ^^ I haven't yet told him that birds are dinosaurs.
A flock of Grey-tailed Tattlers, Pacific Golden Plovers, and Grey Plovers.
