We'll drive you around Ishigaki Island to wherever the birds are showing best that day. Observation is mostly from inside the vehicle, and we keep it to a maximum of 3 guests so everyone can take their time.
ハマシギやアカアシシギ、オオソリハシシギ、キアシシギ、ヒバリシギなど春の北上組がちらほら。
オオソリハシシギ1羽が頭上を越えて降り立ちましたが遠過ぎて途中で見失う。^^;

先月も情報をもらっていたのですが、時間が取れず見られなかったキガシラセキレイ夏羽。今日は、なんとか行ける距離で出たとの情報をもらい早速見て来ました。
水路にいるとのことだったので、橋の上から双眼鏡で覗くもキガシラセキレイは見当たらず。反対側の池を探すといました。キガシラセキレイは、思っていた以上に黄色かった。^^
葦の根元や水路の底の小さな虫を食っていた。何かの拍子に驚くと水路と池を行ったり来たりするキガシラセキレイでした。

At the pond, it was hopping from rock to rock, foraging for insects in the water and at the base of the grass.
In the drainage channel, it was catching aquatic insects.
Seen head-on, the Citrine Wagtail is yellow from the top of the crown all the way to the belly.
There are a few dark feathers mixed in around the nape. A young individual?

There was also a small flock of Long-toed Stints.
昨日は沖縄の「浜下り」、八重山ではサニズといって一年の内でもっとも潮がひく旧暦の3月3日の行事がありました。この日は、女性が海に手足を浸し清め、健康を祈願する日ですが、大勢の潮干狩り客や釣り客も浜にやって来ます。
今日も昨日ほどではありませんが干満の差があるので、コクガンがいる場所は、釣り客で賑わっていました。ここのコクガンは、あまり人を恐れないようですが、さすがに今日は、海岸から離れて休んだり餌となる海藻を食ったりしていました。
3月27日に確認されてから今日で5日目の滞在。
All the green in front of and behind the Brant is the seaweed it feeds on.
It was pulling out the seaweed one mouthful at a time and eating it. There's no shortage of food, but I wonder how long it will stay.

The wind was strong, so the seaweed was blown right out of the Brant's bill. ^^;
渡り途中だと思われるミユビシギがいました。
沖縄本島では、うるま市など越冬するミユビシギの群れもいるのですが、いつも遠くてよく観察できませんでした。糸満市で見つけたこのミユビシギは、目の前15メートルほどに降り立ってきました。ミユビシギのいるような環境ではないので春の渡りの途中、羽を休めに少し寄っただけでしょう。
True to the origin of its name, I was able to confirm that the Sanderling has only three toes. ^^
You can confirm the toe count on this one too.
Opportunities to observe Sanderlings up close on Okinawa Island are rare, so I took plenty of photos.

寒い国のコクガンがなぜか沖縄にやってきました。最初に発見したのは辺土名高校サイエンス部野鳥班で、クロサギの調査を糸満市の海岸でしていたところ発見したようです。
コクガンは、海岸に繁茂する海藻をひたすら食っては糞を落としていました。
昨年の2月27日に千葉県まで見に行った のにわざわざコクガンの方から沖縄まで来てくれるとは!!

It looks younger than the individual I saw in Chiba Prefecture last year — could it be a juvenile?
The plumage condition doesn't look like an adult either. I'm not sure how many years it takes for a Brant to acquire adult plumage, but the white bars on the median and greater coverts — a juvenile plumage feature — look fairly worn.
Even when anglers and others approach quite close, it shows little sign of fleeing.
I don't know how long it will stay, but I'd like to check in on it from time to time.
