すでに3巣が巣立ちを終えていますが、こちらはまだ子育て中。コノハズクよりアオバズクの方が営巣開始にばらつきがある模様。

アオバズクのヒナが巣立ちました。昨夜巣立ったと思われます。他の2つの巣は既に巣立ったようでヒナ、親鳥とも見当たりませんでした。

近くのコノハズク2巣はまだ子育て中。

Too cute. It was holding its bill open in the scorching heat.

2つ目のサンコウチョウ営巣。前に見つけたのは遠過ぎたけど、ここは家の近く。^^ なんとなく入った藪の中で営巣していました。ヒナは孵化数日ってところでした。

Got the whole bird, but the background… ^^;

3巣のコノハズクを見てきました。どこも順調に子育てが進んでいるようです。ついでに、新しい巣も見つけました。石垣島のコノハズクの密度は思った以上に濃そうだ。^^

巣穴のヒナが大きく成長しているようで、メスが外へ追いやられています。

This is a spot where Oriental Scops Owls nest every year, but it was my first time seeing the female. ^^

The male was nowhere to be found.

こんなコノハズクを見たのは初めてです。左目が真っ黒。カンムリワシでは2羽いるのですが…。

観光客がよく来る底地ビーチの防風林をずーっと上を向きながら探していたので、変な人に映ったことでしょう。^^;

It was calling high up in a Fukugi tree, and my neck got tired from looking up searching for it…. ^^;

旧暦の5月4日のユッカヌヒーで八重山の梅雨はあけたのですが、今日は芒種なのでしばらく雨が降るでしょう。

沢登りをしていたら、サンコウチョウも営巣に入っていました。

先日、友達とあたりをつけていたアオバズクを見てきました。^^ ついでにコノハズクも。

It's a male. Telling the sexes apart is difficult with Oriental Scops Owls, but with Brown Hawk-Owls you can kind of tell. ^^

ヒナの声が巣から外まで聞こえるようになってきました。明日か明後日には巣立ちでしょう。^^

しかし、なんでコノハズクの巣の上に巣をつくっちゃったんだろう…。^^;

It caught a caterpillar in the tree right beside me and carried it off to the nest. Once before, it perched on the front of my lens. ^^;

午前中は全くダメでしたが、夕方になんとか1羽。^^;

Both the Brown Hawk-Owl and the Oriental Scops Owl have started incubating. ^^

メスはどこも抱卵に入っているので見つかるのはオスばかり。先週から一斉に抱卵に入りました。

A male Ruddy Kingfisher paired with a different female from last year. They built their nest in a Formosan subterranean termite mound, but the entrance has broken open and the incubating female is in plain sight — I wonder if that's okay…

リュウキュウコノハズクうまく隠れます。

Backlit again… ^^; I wonder if it is deliberately hiding with that in mind.

きょうは、アオバズクから始まり、出だしはよかったのですが、コノハズクが鳴き声すらしない…。もうだめかなと思ったら、念願のコノハズクも見つかりました。^^

It was perched in a nice spot. ^^

北部に昼飯を食いにいったついでに撮ってきました。^^

Those glass-clear, transparent eyes are beautiful. ^^

漁港の防風林を探索していたら、後ろからコノハズクが通りすぎました。きっと近くで営巣しているのでしょう。^^

慌ててカメラと三脚を車から取ってきたので、脈動でカメラがぶれる…。^^;

It is calling while looking upward.

最近、コノハズクの探し方がわかってきたような気がします。1日で3個体も探せましたー。

耳を澄まして、とにかく歩くので疲れた…。^^;

I searched for the owner of the ko-hō ko-hō call — and there it was. A male Ryukyu Scops Owl. ^^

The individual being mobbed by small birds in the video is this same bird.

アカショウビンとカンムリワシです。

The plumage is transitioning from juvenile to immature.

逆光がセンダンの新芽を緑に輝かせて、いかにも夏のアオバズクでした!!

目立つところに止まっていてびっくり。

It heard a crow calling and snapped its eyes wide open, on alert. Still perching on one foot, though.

4月24日に巣穴掘りをしていたアカショウビン ですが、気に入らなかったらしく他の木に巣穴を掘っていました。

片方が掘り終わると小声で鳴いて、もう一羽の巣穴掘りを促していました。^^

The male is on the right, the female on the left. The female, having finished digging the nest hole, is calling softly.

今年は、コノハズクが多いのでしょうか? 今日で5個体目の撮影。^^

ウオーキング中の品のいいご婦人が通りかかったんで、コノハズクを教えてあげました。ご婦人曰く、この辺りはアオバズクなんかも見るそうです。

I heard a call while driving, so I went looking — and there it was. ^^

Afterwards it flew over my head and disappeared into the thicket on the other side.
