台風23号の影響で風が強く、カンムリワシもなかなか見つかりません。^^;
A juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle was in the garden of a house.
The adult was sheltering from the wind among the trees.

It was hunting for prey. My time to leave for work came before I could see how it turned out… ^^;

カンムリワシのカニ狩り
水の中の大きなカニにアタック!! 水につかって食うのは嫌なようで、茂みの中に運んでからゆっくりと食っていました。^^
While I was photographing this Crested Serpent Eagle, I got a message from my mentor: "What are you doing? 1,700 Grey-faced Buzzards in 30 minutes." I headed straight out to watch the migration. ^^ It has a firm grip on a crab.

サシバの渡り(動画あり)
昨日からサシバの渡りが始まりました。本日は2000羽以上が渡りました。^^
It has migrated through again this year. ^^
I missed the largest flock, but was able to observe a passage of over 2,000 birds.
None of them flew close enough, so everything is heavily cropped… ^^;
An Osprey carrying a trevally also showed up. ^^ Something like a Goldenbanded Trevally, maybe?

7羽のオオヒシクイが渡ってきています。^^
It was very wary and wouldn't let me get close, so cropped. ^^;
As long as I kept more than a paddy field's width away, it didn't get alarmed.

A Black-winged Stilt that looks like it has bloodshot eyes. ^^ The most beautiful wader that comes through Ishigaki.

サシバの渡りピーク
13、14日と2000羽越えの渡りが観察できました!! 20日前後までは条件が良ければ見られるでしょう。
A juvenile crossed almost directly overhead. I noticed too late and only got a rear view… ^^;
Shooting at 600mm, so this is just a small part of the kettle.

あちらこちらでシマアカモズの高鳴きが聞かれるようになりました。
While most Brown Shrikes are very wary, this male let me shoot up close. ^^

崎枝で観察してみましたが、サシバの渡る気配はありませんでした。水田地帯には越冬サシバがいました。
For a bird that had just arrived on migration, this Grey-faced Buzzard was not particularly nervous. ^^

雨上がりの池のほとりでカエルを捕まえていました。完食しては、次のカエルと大漁のようでした。^^ 2本目の動画はカンムリワシの鳴き声がばっちり入っています。^^

Frog caught. It tore apart a toxic Cane Toad and ate every bit of it. Seems the toxin was no problem. ^^;
When it heard another Crested Serpent Eagle calling nearby it called back, but it was getting the worse of it and looked rattled. ^^;

真っ向から飛んでくるのでやられると思った…。^^;
It had caught a turtle. The turtle was too close to get in focus… It looks like the Crested Serpent Eagle caught the turtle after it bolted from the undergrowth the eagle had stepped into.
