First-winter male Blue-and-white Flycatcher near Urabudake, Yonaguni Island. Encounters like this are extremely rare in the Yaeyamas and Okinawa.

Same individual as above. Stopping by the same spot again in the evening, it was still there. With the bad weather, it will probably stay a while.

Juvenile Dollarbird at Komi, Iriomote Island. The bill lacks the reddish coloring seen in adults.

Juvenile Chinese Sparrowhawk on Yonaguni Island.

Another juvenile Chinese Sparrowhawk on Yonaguni Island. Of the dozen or so birds I saw along forest roads, only two were adults.

Among the large number of Eastern Yellow Wagtails at Komi, Iriomote Island, there was a Richard's Pipit.

Same individual as above. I shot it from all sides hoping it might be a Blyth's Pipit, but it is a Richard's Pipit.

Tiger Shrikes were present in enormous numbers on Yonaguni Island. With the strong northerly winds, they were especially concentrated in the southern areas.

Grey-streaked Flycatchers are here and there all along the forest roads.

Juvenile Grey-streaked Flycatcher. Less wary than adults, so you can observe and photograph them up close.

A very wary first-winter Asian Brown Flycatcher. In the field I thought it was a Dark-sided Flycatcher, but looking back at the photos it turned out to be an Asian Brown Flycatcher.

Juvenile Dunlin. Rarely seen in the Yaeyamas.

The sea around Yonaguni Island, rough from the north wind. Shortly after this, Typhoon No. 17 also formed and I was stranded on the island… ^^;
