若ツミのペア産卵間近
きょうは、6月も最後の日。今月は3日間しか休みのない忙しい月でした。毎年、6月はほとんど休めない…。^^; この時期は、野鳥の子育て最盛期なのでもっとフィールドに出たいんだけどねー。
先月見つけて、今月の中ごろから巣作りに入っていたツミの若いペアも間も無くというかやっとというか、そろそろ産卵の兆しが見えてきました。いくつか観察しているツミの営巣で、すでに巣立ったところもあり、ことしはかなりばらつきがありますね。
この場所のツミは、観察している中でずば抜けて人を恐れません。今の所、営巣木の真下でおじさんが車の掃除をしようが、草刈りが入ろうが全く動じる様子はありません。しかし、 先日の他の場所の若いカップル のようにヒナがある程度大きくなったら豹変して人間に攻撃的になる可能性もありますので、今後の動向を引き続き見守ってみます。
A male Japanese Sparrowhawk sitting in the nest. Even when a man opened his car bonnet and started cleaning it right below the nest tree, the birds paid no attention at all, taking turns carrying nesting material and testing the feel of the nest cup.
A female (left) and male Japanese Sparrowhawk. It's rare to get a shot of a pair perched neatly side by side, so this one made me happy. Seeing them together like this really highlights just how small the male is.
Handholding the 600mm f/4 for the first time in a while — it was heavy. ^^;
A similar frame to the one above, but that was shot with the 600mm f/4 and this one with the 100–400mm. The difference in background blur is quite striking.
The male flew in and mounted the female's back directly, attempting to mate, but was rebuffed.
