沖縄本島初記録のイエスズメ(動画あり)
沖縄本島では初めての記録となるイエスズメを台風が近づくさなか、見つけてしまいました。国内での記録は、北海道離島や秋田県、舳倉、見島など数例だそうです。今年の2月ごろには熊本県でも観察され、1カ月以上滞在したようです。
「オオチドリ、コシャクシギ、ベニバトのどれかでもいないかな?」と南部の畑を回っていたら、ドバト、キジバト、スズメが採餌している畑を発見。台風の風の影響で変なの入っていないかと双眼鏡で覗いてみると明らかに様子がおかしいスズメを見つけました。カメラを準備している間に一度は見失いましたが、30羽ほどのスズメの群れを丹念に探すと再び発見。写真に撮り詳細を見てみると、なんと沖縄本島初記録となるイエスズメでした。成鳥オスの冬羽です。イエスズメのオスは他のスズメと比べるとがっしりした印象で、頭の灰色の部分と胸のまだら模様が目立ちます。
すぐに鳥友の小学生から70代の5人に連絡すると3人は都合がつき現場にやってきました。みなで沖縄本島初記録となるイエスズメを堪能しました。後日、共著で研究紀要が出る予定です。

It was hard to tell the difference through binoculars in the field, but looking at the photos the distinction between House Sparrow and Eurasian Tree Sparrow is immediately obvious.
It was mixed in like this among a flock of several dozen Eurasian Tree Sparrows.
It was pinning down grass heads with its feet and eating the seeds.

White axillaries. Did it really come all the way from Europe on wings this small?
The bill looked whitish, and for a moment it reminded me of a Russet Sparrow.
Perhaps tired from the long journey — after feeding, it closed its eyes and rested for a while.
The overall impression of the House Sparrow, compared to the Eurasian Tree Sparrow, was considerably whiter.
A female Barred Buttonquail was also wandering nearby.
