久しぶりにリュウキュウアカショウビン
リュウキュウアカショウビンを2カ所で幼鳥1羽と成鳥3羽の合わせて4羽を確認できました。この時期、4羽に出会えるとは意外でした。
最初のポイントは、毎年、営巣が確認されている場所。しかし、今年は巣穴を見つけられずにいましたが、どこかで子育てをしていたようです。昨年は3羽の巣立ちを確認。今回、見たのは1羽だけでしたが、ほかのヒナはすでに親元を去ったのか、それとも藪の中にいたのか…。
もう一カ所も毎年、やってくるのでどこかで繁殖をしているものと思われますが、巣は見つけられず。こちらはすでにヒナたちは親元を離れているようでしたが、親鳥2羽は、同じ縄張りでペアを維持しているようでした。

The bird above dropped the crab's legs and other parts, then called out without eating it itself — I thought "there must be a recently fledged chick nearby," and sure enough a juvenile came flying out of the undergrowth. Even at this size they're still being fed by the parent.
The adult, now in molt and looking ragged. A grueling migration still awaits from here.
I hope to see them back in good shape next year.
