西表島にアカガシラサギ3羽
「ユッカヌヒー」の旧暦5月4日、ハーリー取材のため西表島へ。船を降りて白浜方面へ車をしばらく走らせるとグラウンドにアカガシラサギが3羽。石垣島では単独でほぼ毎年、渡りや越冬個体を見るし、先日も 季節外れのアカガシラサギを石垣島で 見ていますが、この時期に3羽となると繁殖も期待していいのか?
翌日、同じグラウンドを見てみましたが、いませんでした。でもこの時期に3羽とは気になるー。
There are breeding records from Akita, Kumamoto, and Chiba, and Iriomote Island has a habitat similar to the main breeding grounds, with a bamboo grove nearby as well.
It caught a large caterpillar. Herons store prey in the crop to some extent before returning to the nest to feed the chicks.

Three Chinese Pond-Herons at this time of year. Hoping for breeding on Iriomote Island!!
